  1. 1. Stochastic systems with locally defined dynamics

    Author : Anton Muratov; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; point process; sequential adsorption; stopping set; random measure; Polya urn; convergence of empirical measures; bit flipping; recurrence; renewal process; Poisson process; Dirichlet distribution; random matrices; random matrices;

    Abstract : We study three different classes of models of stochastic systems with locally defined dynamics. Our main points of interest are the limiting properties and convergence in these models. The first class is the locally interactive sequential adsorption, or LISA, models. READ MORE

  2. 2. Limit theorems for generalizations of GUE random matrices

    Author : Martin Bender; Kurt Johansson; Arno Kuijlaars; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Random matrices; Central limit theorem; Dyson s Brownian motion; Interacting diffusion; Point process; Non-Hermitian; Scaling limit; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of two papers devoted to the asymptotics of random matrix ensembles and measure valued stochastic processes which can be considered as generalizations of the Gaussian unitary ensemble (GUE) of Hermitian matrices H=A+A†, where the entries of A are independent identically distributed (iid) centered complex Gaussian random variables. In the first paper, a system of interacting diffusing particles on the real line is studied; special cases include the eigenvalue dynamics of matrix-valued Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes (Dyson's Brownian motion). 3. 3. Satistical Modelling Of CO2 Exchange Between Land And Atmosphere : Using Stochastic Optimisation And Gaussian Markov Random Fields

    Author : Unn Dahlén; Spatio-Temporal Stochastic Modelling Group; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gaussiska Markovfält; Stokastisk optimering; CO2-flöden; Spatial statistik; Stochastic Optimisation; Gaussian Markov Random Fields; Atmospheric inverse modelling; Spatial statistics; Computational statistics;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the development and application of efficient mathematicaltools for estimating and modelling the exchange of carbon dioxide (CO2) between the Earth and its atmosphere; here referred to as the global CO2 surface flux.There are two main approaches for estimating the CO2 flux: Processed based(bottom-up) modelling and atmospheric inversion (top-down) modelling. 4. 4. Identification of viscoelastic materials and continuous-time stochastic systems

    Author : Magnus Mossberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; identification; viscoelastic; continuous-time; Signal processing; Signalbehandling; Signal Processing; Signalbehandling;

    Abstract : Two system identification problems, identification of viscoelastic material properties and identification of continuous-time stochastic systems, are considered in the thesis. The viscoelastic material properties are characterised by the frequency-dependent complex modulus. READ MORE

  5. 5. Population viability analysis for plants : practical recommendations and applications

    Author : Satu Ramula; Kari Lehtilä; Patrik Dinnétz; Esa Ranta; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; demography; matrix population models; population viability analysis; population growth rate; stochastic models; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Population viability analysis (PVA) is commonly used in conservation biology to predict population viability in terms of population growth rate and risk of extinction. However, large data requirements limit the use of PVA for many rare and threatened species. READ MORE
