  1. 1. Central retinal vein occlusion: Cetrain risk factors, electroretinography and an experimental treatment model

    Author : Jörgen Larsson; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; flicker; ERG; electroretinography; fluorescein angiography; rubeosis; CRVO; central retianl vein occlusion; ultrasound; streptokinase; experimental; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : The presence of activated protein C resistance, plasma hyperhomocysteinemia and the MTHFR C677T mutation in patients with central retinal vein occlusion were investigated and compared to a control group. Activated protein C resistance was overrepresented in the group of patients less than 50 years of age whereas this was not the case in patients more than 50 years of age. READ MORE

  2. 2. Plasminogen and protein PAM: Interactions between streptococcal surface proteins and the human fibrinolytic system

    Author : Annika Carlsson Wistedt; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bacteriology; Microbiology; M protein; streptokinase; kringles; plasmin; Streptococcus pyogenes; plasminogen; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Pathogenic bacteria often produce potent proteases capable of destroying host tissue thereby providing the bacteria with tools for spreading and nutrient access. This thesis describes how group A, C and G streptococci can acquire surface bound protease activity through an alternative mechanism, namely by binding and activation of the human protease precursor plasminogen. 3. 3. Molecular analysis of Streptococcus pyogenes and its interactions with the human host

    Author : Andreas Berge; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; complement activation; fibrinogen; IgG; M protein; C5a peptidase; streptococcal cysteine proteinase; streptokinase; t-PA; Streptococcus pyogenes; plasminogen; C1q; insertional sequence.; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Streptococcus pyogenes causes infections only in humans, from trivial tonsillitis to life-threatening conditions. One of its most important virulence factors is the M-like protein family conferring resistance to phagocytosis to the bacterium. The M-like proteins are surface exposed rod-like molecules attached to the cell wall. Each strain of S. READ MORE

  4. 4. Tissue tropism among group A streptococci - importance of bacteria associated proteolytic activity

    Author : Mikael Dag Svensson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cysteine protease; plasminogen; M protein; Streptococcus pyogenes; tissue tropism; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Group A streptococcus (GAS) is one of the most common of bacterial pathogens infecting humans, frequently causing throat and skin infection. Some GAS strains have surface-expressed virulence factors called M proteins that bind human plasminogen with high affinity. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ultrasound-enhanced Fibrinolysis Pro-fibrinolytic and Non-beneficial Effects Of Ultrasound Exposure

    Author : Bjarne Madsen-Härdig; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Thrombolysis; Cardiovascular system; Fibrinolysis; Ultrasound;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to further clarify the pro-fibrinolytic effects, and to explore the possible non-beneficial effects in ischemic organs, during exposure to pulsed ultrasound. This was accomplished by studies of the effects of different intensities of pulsed ultrasound exposure on the fibrinolytic properties of streptokinase and reteplase. READ MORE
