  1. 1. Rehabilitation after stroke with focus on early supported discharge and post-stroke fatigue

    Author : Anna Bråndal; Per Wester; Lillemor Lundin-Olsson; Eva-Lotta Glader; Lena von Koch; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stroke; early supported discharge; post-stroke fatigue; patient reported outcome measurement; Fatigue assessment scale; cardiorespiratory training; sjukgymnastik; Physiotherapy;

    Abstract : Background Stroke is a major cause of disability worldwide. After treatment in a specialized stroke unit, early supported discharge (ESD) followed by home rehabilitation has shown to be an effective way to improve patient outcome and quality of care for persons with mild to moderate stroke. 2. 2. The impact of organizational and temporal factors on acute stroke care in Sweden

    Author : David Darehed; Marie Eriksson; Mathias Blom; Eva-Lotta Glader; Johan Niklasson; Bo Norrving; Ole Morten Rønning; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; in-hospital bed occupancy; stroke unit; The Swedish Stroke Register; organizational factors; temporal variation; stroke thrombolysis; door-to-needle time; quality of care; outcomes; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Background: Acute stroke carries a high risk of morbidity and death, but early treatment can improve outcomes. Intravenous stroke thrombolysis (IVT) is one such treatment, it is however time-sensitive and show better outcomes the sooner it is given. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cognition and activity early after stroke

    Author : Tamar Abzhandadze; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute stroke; Activities of Daily Living; Cognition; Function; Functional cognition; Dependency; Global disability; Prediction; Screening; Assessment; Stroke unit; Registries; Ischemic stroke; Intracerebral hemorrhage; Occupational therapy; Rehabilitation;

    Abstract : Introduction and aims: Cognitive impairment and dependency in activities of daily living (ADL) are common consequences of stroke. Due to a decrease in the length of hospital stay, assessment of these conditions has become necessary for the planning of discharge and rehabilitation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Pediatric ischemic stroke : Epidemiological aspects of validity, risk factors, and outcomes

    Author : Anna Walås; Heléne Sundelin; Peter Bang; Jenny Bolk; Mikael Norman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Pediatric ischemic stroke is divided into perinatal stroke, 20 weeks gestation until the 28th day of life, and childhood stroke, the 29th day of life until 18 years of age. Perinatal and childhood stroke differ in risk factors and outcomes but both cause increased mortality and morbidity in the pediatric population. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ischemic Stroke Outcomes - Analyses of Protein and Genetic Biomarkers

    Author : Annie Pedersen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stroke; Prognosis; Biomarkers; Genetics; Genome-Wide Association Study;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to identify novel biomarkers for ischemic stroke outcomes. The specific aims were to test the hypotheses that circulating concentrations of hemostatic biomarkers predict the long-term post-stroke risk of recurrent vascular events/death (paper I) and/or cognitive impairment (paper II) and that circulating concentrations of a marker of neuronal damage (neurofilament light chain, NfL) predict post-stroke functional and neurological outcomes (paper III) as well as to identify genetic variants associated with post-stroke functional outcome through a genome wide association study (GWAS) approach (paper IV).
