  1. 1. Experimental Neuroretinal Transplantation

    Author : Fredrik Ghosh; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Transplant; Retinal degeneration; Retina; Rabbit; Neural development; Immunohistochemistry; MHC; Ultrastructure; Vitrectomy; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : Embryonic full-thickness rabbit neuroretinal sheets were transplanted to the subretinal space of adult hosts. This was accomplished by using a new transplantation technique involving vitrectomy and retinotomy. The grafts were followed from 10 to 306 days after surgery, and were then examined by different histological techniques. READ MORE

  2. 2. Photoreceptors in experimental retinal cell transplants

    Author : Bengt Juliusson; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; immunohistochemistry; mice; rabbits; rats; interphotoreceptor matrix; retinal pigment epithelium; photoreceptors; Retina; transplantation; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : The main objective of this thesis was to investigate the fate of photoreceptor cells when using different strategies for retinal cell transplantation. Comparing transplantation of fragments of embryonic retina with cell suspensions of the same tissue we found that transplantation of fragments of embryonic retina result in mature transplants with a higher degree of cellular organization than transplantation of cell suspensions of embryonic retina. 3. 3. The cell line RN33B transplanted to adult retina

    Author : Anita Blixt Wojciechowski; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oftalmologi; host glial response; Ophtalmology; differentiation; migration; proliferation; survival; immunosuppression; RN33B; brain-derived precursor cells; retinal degeneration; subretinal transplantation;

    Abstract : The thesis describes the neural precursor cell line RN33B transplanted subretinally to adult healthy and young dystrophic rat retina. The cell line is generated from E12,5 rat raphe nucleus and transduced with the temperature sensitive mutant of the Simian Virus 40 (SV40) large T-antigen. READ MORE

  4. 4. Experimental transplantation of retinal and iris pigment epithelial cells into the subretinal space

    Author : Sven Crafoord; Jan Ulrik Prause; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : A dysfunction of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is the main cause for the development of age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) and visual loss in elderly people. For about 10 years experimental and clinical attempts to transplant RPE cells have been performed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Interactions between neural retina, retinal epithelium and choroid

    Author : Lena Ivert; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : RPE; neural retina; basal lamina; Bruch s membrane; choroid; subretinal space; bleb detachment; ICG; FAG; SLO; choroidal blood flow.;

    Abstract : The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is a non-replicating monolayer that plays a key role nursing the photoreceptors of the neural retina, regulating fluid movement within the subretinal space, maintaining a basal laminar layer of Bruch s membrane, and influencing the choriocapillaris. This project investigates how surgical manipulation of the retinal epithelial layer influences the neural retina, the choroid and the epithelial layer itself. READ MORE
