    Abstract : UDP-sugar metabolizing pyrophosphorylases provide the primary mechanism for de novo synthesis of UDP-sugars, which can then be used for myriads of glycosyltranferase reactions, producing cell wall carbohydrates, sucrose, glycoproteins and glycolipids, as well as many other glycosylated compounds. The pyrophosphorylases can be divided into three families: UDP-Glc pyrophosphorylase (UGPase), UDP-sugar pyrophosphorylase (USPase) and UDP-N-acety lglucosamine pyrophosphorylase (UAGPase), which can be discriminated both by differences in accepted substrate range and amino acid sequences. 2. 2. Single DNA Molecule Analysis – New Tools for Medical Diagnosis

    Author : My Nyblom; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; optical DNA mapping; DNA damage; DNA; single-molecule analysis; fluorescence microscopy; antibiotic resistance; nanofluidics; genetics;

    Abstract : The DNA molecule, the blueprint of life, contains an enormous amount of information. The information is coded by the combination of four bases; adenine, cytosine, guanine, and thymine, that, together with the sugar-phosphate backbones, make up the DNA double helix. READ MORE

  3. 3. Succinic acid production using metabolically engineered Escherichia coli

    Author : Christian Andersson; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Abstract : The prospects of peak oil, climate change and the dependency of fossil carbon have urged research and development of production methods for the manufacture of fuels and chemicals from renewable resources (biomass). To date, the primary emphasis has been placed on the replacement of oil for transportation fuels. READ MORE

  4. 4. Four carbon oxychemicals from renewable resources

    Author : Adam Marschall Jaros; Christian Andersson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Abstract : Butanol, butyric acid and butyraldehyde are important 4-carbon oxychemicals typically generated from petro-chemical sources. All have significant markets in the food industry either for direct use as flavorings or as chemical feedstocks for generating butyric acid and butyraldehyde derived flavour compounds. READ MORE

  5. 5. Integration of a hemicelluloses extraction step into a forest biorefinery for production of green chemicals

    Author : Jonas Helmerius; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Abstract : Sustainable use of forest and agricultural resources will play an important role for solving urgent global challenges such as the enhanced green house effect and increasing demand for fossil fuels. The development of processes where lignocellulosic biomass can be refined to several different end-products in the same plant, i.e. READ MORE
