  1. 1. Experimental studies of radiation-induced dissolution of UO2 : The effect of intrinsic solid phase properties and external factors

    Author : Alexandre Barreiro Fidalgo; Mats Jonsson; David Shoesmith; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oxidation; dissolution; uranium dioxide; gadolinium; bentonite; sulfide; hydrogen; gamma radiation; radiolysis; hydrogen peroxide; hydroxyl radical; repository; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Dissolution of the UO2 matrix is one of the potential routes for radionuclide release in a future deep geological repository for spent nuclear fuel. This doctoral thesis focuses on interfacial reactions of relevance in radiation-induced dissolution of UO2 and is divided in two parts:In the first part, we sought to explore the effects of solid phase composition:The impact of surface stoichiometry on the reactivity of UO2 towards aqueous radiolytic oxidants was studied. 2. 2. Novel electrode and photoelectrode materials for hydrogen production based on molecular catalysts

    Author : Andrew J. Bagnall; Leif Hammarström; Vincent Artero; Sascha Ott; Alexander Cowan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electrochemical mechanism; hydrogen; artificial photosynthesis; molecular catalyst; hydrogen evolution; cobalt; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The PhD project focussed on the application of a cobalt tetraazamacrocyclic complex, in the literature commonly referred to as [Co(CR)Cl2]+ as a molecular catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). This was within the broader scope of the EU MSCA H2020 ITN ‘eSCALED’ project, which primarily aimed to create artificial leaf devices for the storage of solar energy in chemical fuels and, as part of this, sought the development of novel bio-inspired and scalable materials. 3. 3. Kraft lignin valorization by hydrotreatment over Mo-based sulfided catalysts

    Author : Muhammad Abdus Salam; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Char; Bio-oil; Kraft Lignin; Hydrodeoxygenation; Y-zeolite; Metal sulfide; Depolymerization; Acidity;

    Abstract : The production of green fuels and chemicals from bio-based feedstock can suppress the dependency on fossil resources and help mitigate global climate challenges. Kraft lignin is a thermochemically modified natural lignin obtained from the pulping process as a byproduct. READ MORE

  4. 4. Slurry Hydrotreatment of Biomass Materials over Metal Sulfide-based Supported and Unsupported Catalysts

    Author : You Wayne Cheah; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrotreatment; Kraft lignin; Transition metals; Slurry hydrocracking; Propylguaiacol; Advanced biofuels; MoS2; Reaction network; Pyrolysis oil; Unsupported TMS;

    Abstract : The scarcity of fossil feedstocks and the deterioration of the current global climate condition have prompted the search for reliable alternatives for fossil fuel replacement. Biomass feedstocks are abundant, carbon-rich, and renewable bioresources that can be used to produce renewable bio-oils that can fill the gap left by fossil-derived oils. READ MORE

  5. 5. Homochiral crystals for selective synthesis

    Author : Theonitsa Kokoli; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Absolute asymmetric synthesis; total spontaneous resolution; optical activity; coordination compounds; coordination polymers; photoisomerization; enantioselective sulfide oxidation; single crystal X-ray crystallography; co-crystallization of diastereomers;

    Abstract : Six new coordination compounds were prepared from monodentate sulfide ligands and copper(I) halides and their crystal structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The aim was to prepare coordination polymers that crystallize as conglomerates in order to use them in total spontaneous resolution. READ MORE
