  1. 1. Chip-based magnetic levitation of superconducting microparticles

    Author : Martí Gutierrez Latorre; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Magnetically levitated superconductors are extremely isolated from the environment, their mechanical properties can be tuned magnetically, and can be coupled to quantum systems such as superconducting quantum circuits. As such, they are a promising experimental platform for the creation of massive spatial quantum states that would test quantum mechanics in a hitherto unexplored parameter regime. READ MORE

  2. 2. On-scalp MEG using high-Tc SQUIDs: Measuring brain activity with superconducting magnetometers

    Author : Christoph Pfeiffer; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high-Tc SQUID; neuroimaging; magnetoencephalography; localization; on-scalp MEG; sensor array; magnetometer;

    Abstract : This thesis describes work done towards realizing on-scalp magnetoencephalography (MEG) based on high critical temperature (high- T c) superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) sensors. MEG is a non-invasive neuroimaging modality that records the magnetic fields produced by neural currents with good spatial and high temporal resolution. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ultra-sensitive measurements of magnetically labelled RCA products in a microfluidic channel using a high-Tc SQUID

    Author : Sobhan Sepehri; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; diagnostics.; high-Tc SQUID; biosensor; magnetic nanoparticle; rolling circle amplification; magnetic bioassay;

    Abstract : The development of a nucleic acid (deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), ribonucleic acid (RNA)) bioassay based on magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) with a high-Tc superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) gradiometer as a magnetic readout is described. The specific binding of the MNPs to the target DNA molecules changes the MNPs size distribution and, therefore, the relaxation dynamics and is measured by magnetic ac susceptometry. READ MORE

  4. 4. Accelerators for Physics Experiments : From Diagnostics and Control to Design

    Author : Elena Wildner; Thomas Lindblad; Mikael Eriksson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis develops techniques of control-methods, optimization, and diagnostics of accelerator equipment and the produced particle beams with emphasis on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) project at CERN. From a solid knowledge of the characteristics of the manufactured accelerator equipment gained from in-depth measurements and analysis of measured data, a link to an enhanced equipment design can be made. 5. 5. Detection of Biomolecules Using Volume-Amplified Magnetic Nanobeads

    Author : Teresa Zardán Gómez de la Torre; Maria Strømme; Peter Svedlindh; Mikkel Fougt Hansen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Magnetic biosensor; magnetic nanobeads; Brownian relaxation; padlock probe; rolling circle amplification; DNA detection; protein detection; Engineering Science with specialization in Nanotechnology and Functional Materials; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot nanoteknologi och funktionella material;

    Abstract : This thesis describes a new approach to biomolecular analysis, called the volume-amplified magnetic nanobead detection assay (VAM-DNA). It is a sensitive, specific magnetic bioassay that offers a potential platform for the development of low-cost, easy-to-use diagnostic devices. READ MORE
