  1. 1. Wideband THz Mixers and Components for the Next Generation of Receivers for Radioastronomy

    Author : Cristian Daniel López; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Spectroscopy; Heterodyne receivers; Finline; Superconductor-Insulator-Superconductor SIS mixers.; Waveguide-to-Substrate Transition; Waveguide twist;

    Abstract : In recent decades, there has been a growing interest in THz research, leading to substantial improvements in technology and the emergence of new applications. In particular, the ever-evolving field of radio astronomy instrumentation has been pushing the limits of millimeter and sub-millimeter technology boundaries, redefining the state-of-the-art for wideband low-noise receivers. 2. 2. Order in Strongly Correlated Quasi-One-Dimensional Systems : Solving Higher-Dimensional Systems Combining Matrix-Product-State Methods and Mean-Field Theory

    Author : Gunnar Bollmark; Adrian Kantian; Annica M. Black-Schaffer; Fabian Heidrich-Meisner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Superconductivity; strongly correlated systems; matrix-product states; quasi-one-dimensional; Hubbard model; mean-field theory; first-principles calculations.; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Since their discovery the understanding of unconventional superconductors (USCs) has posed a great challenge in condensed matter physics. One central problem, both of theory and experiment, lies in determining the microscopic origin of electron pairing in such systems. READ MORE

  3. 3. Numerical solutions to non-linear inhomogeneous problems in Superconductivity : From sphalerons to multi-band boundary states and spontaneous magnetic fields

    Author : Andrea Ludovico Benfenati; Egor Babaev; Sedrakyan Tigran; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis is a compilation of theoretical works focused on simulating and studying open questions regarding single and multiband superconductivity. In the last decades, with the discovery of multiband superconductors, the spectrum of potential applications has greatly widened. Abstract : This work presents new development and applications of ab-initio simulation tools for material science. Focus lies on materials with strong electronic correlation and strong spin-orbit coupling. READ MORE

  5. 5. Superinductance and fluctuating two-level systems: Loss and noise in disordered and non-disordered superconducting quantum devices

    Author : David Niepce; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : In this thesis, we first demonstrate that a disordered superconductor with high kinetic inductance can realise a microwave low-loss, non-dissipative circuit element with impedance greater than the quantum resistance. This element, known as a superinductor, can suppress the fluctuations of charge in a quantum circuit. READ MORE
