1. Focal atrial tachycardia : Insights concerning the arrhythmogenic substrate based on analysis of intracardiac electrograms and inflammatory markers
Abstract : Background: Focal atrial tachycardias are tachycardias characterized by a radial spread of activation from a discrete area of the atrial myocardium. They account for 10-15% of supraventricular tachycardias and are generally poorly responsive to pharmacological treatment. The pathophysiologic substrate of these arrhythmias remains poorly understood. READ MORE

2. The oesophageal route in clinical electrocardiology
Abstract : The subject of this thesis is the clinical use of the oesophageal electrode in electrocardiology. The three areas covered are oesophageal electro- cardiography, the biophysics of transoesophageal atrial stimulation (TAS) and the clinical utility of TAS. The literature is reviewed with respect to these areas. READ MORE

3. ATRIOVENTRICULAR CONDUCTION in Patients with Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardias
Abstract : This thesis concerns retrospective and prospective studies of the atrioventricular (AV) conduction properties in patients with cardiac arrhythmias. The objectives of the retrospective studies were to further delineate the sex distribution in patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW) and AV nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT) and to determine the underlying mechanisms of the differences in sex distribution, to investigate the relationship between the conduction properties of normal and accessory AV pathway, and to evaluate their conduction properties with respect to accessory pathway location. 4. Implications of brief episodes of atrial fibrillation (micro-AF)
Abstract : INTRODUCTION: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common clinically relevant arrhythmia. It is diagnosed using an electrocardiogram (ECG) and defined as an irregular heart rhythm without p-waves lasting for at least 30 seconds. This 30-second time criterion is based solely on expert consensus. READ MORE

5. Cryoablation of cardiac arrhythmias
Abstract : This thesis evaluates the safety and efficacy of cryoablation in supraventricular tachyarrhythmias. In Study I, the acute and long-term outcome of cryoablation therapy of typical atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT) was studied in a large series of patients (n=312). READ MORE
