  1. 16. Assesing performance of PCR analysis using Bayesian modelling

    Author : Ronny Hedell; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bayesian; Hierarchical model; PCR; Low-template DNA; Bacillus anthracis; Sensitivity; Forensic science; Forensic science;

    Abstract : Different analytical methods are available to analyse the DNA samples from crime scenes or to screen samples for the presence of some target bacterium. For this purpose a method known as Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) can often be used. READ MORE

  2. 17. CFD-based Analysis of Combustion Processes in a Free-Piston Diesel Engine

    Author : Miriam Bergman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; chemical kinetics; Diesel; homogeneous charge compression ignition HCCI ; free-piston; equivalence ratio vs. temperature maps; computational fluid dynamics CFD ; surrogate fuel;

    Abstract : The Free Piston Engine (FPE) which is capable of operating in a variable compression ratio mode, allows flexible auto-ignition control on a cycle-to-cycle basis without any hardware modifications. In this study combustion processes in an FPE were examined using the KIVA-3V CFD code with detailed chemical kinetics (305 reactions among 70 species) of a Diesel surrogate fuel incorporated. Abstract : During the last decade an alternative to conventional internal combustion engines, i.e. spark-ignited and Diesel engines, has been under investigation by an ever-increasing number of research groups. READ MORE

  4. 19. Simulation of Combustion and Mixture Formation for Gasoline Direct Injection Engine Application

    Author : Chen Huang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VSB2; Reitz-KHRT; gasoline surrogate; LISA; sensitivity study.; Reitz-Diwakar; Trajectory collision; laminar flame speed; chemical kinetics; TAB; Rosin-Rammler; ignition delay; OpenFOAM; ethanol; O Rourke collision; SMD; hollow cone spray; liquid penetration;

    Abstract : The development and introduction of new engine technologies are primarily motivated by the need to comply with increasingly stringent emissions legislation and to reduce fuel consumption. One of the most important of these new engine technologies is direct gasoline injection, which is considered to be an important and cost-effective measure to meet both targets. READ MORE

  5. 20. Numerical Modelling of Fuel Injection and Stratified Turbulent Combustion in a Direct-Injection Spark-Ignition Engine Using an Open Source Code

    Author : Chen Huang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : Stringent regulations on the emission of pollutants, especially carbon dioxide (CO2), necessitate the development of advanced combustion technologies. Gasoline direct injection (GDI) into the combustion chamber of a Spark Ignition (SI) engine is a combustion strategy that is widely recognized as having the potential to improve fuel efficiency of internal combustion engines for passenger cars.
