  1. 1. Biological diversity values in semi-natural grasslands : indicators, landscape context and restoration

    Author : Mathias Öster; Ove Eriksson; Martin Zobel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biodiversity; connectivity; Hygrocybe; indicators; landscape history; plants; pollen limitation; species-area effects; surrogate species; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Semi-natural grasslands, which are a declining and fragmented habitat in Europe, contain a high biodiversity, and are therefore of interest to conservation. This thesis examines how plant diversity is influenced by the landscape context, and how plant and fungal diversity can be targeted by practical conservation using indicator species and congruence between species groups. 2. 2. CFD-based Analysis of Combustion Processes in a Free-Piston Diesel Engine

    Author : Miriam Bergman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; chemical kinetics; Diesel; homogeneous charge compression ignition HCCI ; free-piston; equivalence ratio vs. temperature maps; computational fluid dynamics CFD ; surrogate fuel;

    Abstract : The Free Piston Engine (FPE) which is capable of operating in a variable compression ratio mode, allows flexible auto-ignition control on a cycle-to-cycle basis without any hardware modifications. In this study combustion processes in an FPE were examined using the KIVA-3V CFD code with detailed chemical kinetics (305 reactions among 70 species) of a Diesel surrogate fuel incorporated. 3. 3. Numerical Modelling of Fuel Injection and Stratified Turbulent Combustion in a Direct-Injection Spark-Ignition Engine Using an Open Source Code

    Author : Chen Huang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hollow-cone spray; KHRT; liquid penetration; CFD; OpenFOAM; Flame Speed Closure FSC ; ignition delay; SMD; gasoline surrogate; laminar flame speed; presumed PDF; Spray-Guided Gasoline Direct Injection engine; chemical mechanism; modelling; premixed stratified turbulent combustion;

    Abstract : Stringent regulations on the emission of pollutants, especially carbon dioxide (CO2), necessitate the development of advanced combustion technologies. Gasoline direct injection (GDI) into the combustion chamber of a Spark Ignition (SI) engine is a combustion strategy that is widely recognized as having the potential to improve fuel efficiency of internal combustion engines for passenger cars. 4. 4. Simulation of Combustion and Mixture Formation for Gasoline Direct Injection Engine Application

    Author : Chen Huang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VSB2; Reitz-KHRT; gasoline surrogate; LISA; sensitivity study.; Reitz-Diwakar; Trajectory collision; laminar flame speed; chemical kinetics; TAB; Rosin-Rammler; ignition delay; OpenFOAM; ethanol; O Rourke collision; SMD; hollow cone spray; liquid penetration;

    Abstract : The development and introduction of new engine technologies are primarily motivated by the need to comply with increasingly stringent emissions legislation and to reduce fuel consumption. One of the most important of these new engine technologies is direct gasoline injection, which is considered to be an important and cost-effective measure to meet both targets. READ MORE

  5. 5. Computer Modeling of HCCI Combustion
