  1. 1. Studies on the deposition, bioavailability and systemic activity of glucocorticoids in man

    Author : Lars Thorsson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacological sciences; systemic activity; glucocorticosteroids; lung deposition; systemic availability; inhalation; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : The local deposition, pharmacokinetics, and systemic activity of inhaled and intranasal glucocorticosteroids in different formulations and devices(ICSs) has been investigated. After nasal administration of the ICS budesonide (Bud), the systemic availability (F) was found to be significantly higher from an aqueous pump spray and from the powder inhaler Turbuhaler, than from a pressurized metered dose inhaler (pMDI), and the uptake process was slower and less complete with the pMDI formulation. 2. 2. Metabolic Significance of Systemic DHA Deficiency

    Author : Anna Maria Pauter; Anders Jacobsson; Bernadette Delplanque; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Abstract : Fatty acid composition in the body displays a high level of heterogeneity and can rapidly respond to changes in diet regime or to starvation. Homeostasis of the level of certain fatty acids is an important factor for maintenance of structural integrity as well as for proper signaling within the organism. READ MORE

  3. 3. Immune maturation and modulation in childhood allergies : Aspects of epigenetic, mucosal and systemic immune mediators in allergy development and prevention

    Author : Johanna Huoman; Maria Jenmalm; Lennart Nilsson; Petra Ina Pfefferle; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The prevalence of allergic diseases has in the past century increased among children in affluent societies. Underlying causes are incompletely disentangled, but decreased diversity in environmental and microbial exposures could drive allergy development. READ MORE

  4. 4. Canine C-reactive protein : validation of two automated canine-specific C-reactive protein assays and studies on clinical and research applications

    Author : Anna Hillström; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : C-reactive protein (CRP) is a sensitive and specific marker of systemic inflammation in dogs, valuable for diagnosing and monitoring inflammatory diseases. The use of CRP in canine medicine has however been hampered by the lack of automated assays optimized for measuring CRP in this species. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cognitive function studied in animal models of schizophrenia

    Author : Erik Pålsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; phencyclidine; nitric oxide; prepulse inhibition; latent; nitric oxide; prepulse inhibition; latent inhibition; habituation; NMDA receptor; rat; mouse; cognition; schizophrenia;

    Abstract : Cognitive dysfunction is considered a core deficit of schizophrenia, which currently lacks effective pharmacological treatment. In order to identify novel and more effective drug treatments, translational experimental animal models of cognitive dysfunction are required. Schizophrenia-like symptoms can be induced in humans by phencyclidine (PCP). READ MORE
