  1. 1. Authority-based argumentative strategies : Three models for their evaluation

    Author : Taeda Jovičić [Tomic]; Krister Segerberg; Frederick Stoutland; Douglas Walton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Philosophy; argumentative strategies; reasoning and social aspects of argumentative activities; argumentative groups; audience groups; acceptability; effectiveness; challenge; evaluation; authority; dialectic; rhetoric; pragma-dialectics; logic of dialogue; profiles of dialogue; Filosofi; Philosophy subjects; Filosofiämnen; Theoretical Philosophy; Teoretisk filosofi;

    Abstract : This dissertation is on argumentative strategies based on authority. In its first half, three of the most elaborate and influential approaches in argumentation theory, related to the models developed in this work, are analyzed: Douglas Walton's dialectical frame for analysis of arguments from expert opinion; Frans van Eemeren and Peter Houtlosser's pragma-dialectical approach to strategic maneuvering in argumentation; the concept of strategy used in Else Barth and Erik Krabbe's formal dialectics. 2. 2. Impacts of pine and eucalyptus plantations on carbon and nutrients stocks and fluxes in miombo forests ecosystems

    Author : Benard Guedes; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Knowledge of how commercial pine and eucalyptus plantations affect soil carbon and nutrient status is important in Mozambique, where incentives are available to increase the area of forest plantations and also to conserve mature miombo forests. Tree species growing on similar sites may affect ecosystem carbon differently if they allocate carbon to aboveground and belowground parts at different rates. READ MORE

  3. 3. Growth of genetically improved stands of Norway spruce, Scots pine and loblolly pine

    Author : Samuel Egbäck; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Genetically improved material of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.), Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mechanical Pulp. Effects of Pretreatment and Wood Source on Fiber Separation and Pulp Properties

    Author : Lars Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; torsional stress; pulp properties; chips; impregnation; screw press; SEM; mechanical pulp; sulfonation; shear stress; fracture surface; wood quality; temperature;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the mechanical pulping process and the effects of wood source and pretreatment conditions on the pulp properties. In the first part, the deformation of Norway spruce (Picea abies) wood samples was investigated under shear and torsional loading at different temperatures (20-95°C) and sulfonation conditions.
