  1. 1. Structure of small RNA phages

    Author : Kaspars Tars; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; bacteriophage; MS2; virus assembly; structural evolution; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Small RNA phages belonging to the family Leviviridae are among the simplest known viruses. They have been used extensively as models for studies of various problems in molecular biology, including protein-RNA interactions, repression of translation, virus assembly and virus evolution. 2. 2. Structural Studies of Bacteriophage PRR1 and HIV-1 protease

    Author : Magnus Persson; Lars Liljas; Kaspars Tars; Félix Rey; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PRR1; HIV; Structural Biology; X-ray crystallography; PRR1; HIV-1 protease; NCS; crystallography; inhibitor; virus; bacteriophage; X-ray crystallography; Virology; Virologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Viruses are a diverse genera of organisms adapted to thrive in many different hosts from prokaryotic to eukaryotic.We present here the structure of bacteriophage PRR1 virus-like particle (VLP), belonging to Leviviridae family. Our structure reveals calcium ions in the VLP. READ MORE

  3. 3. Structure of Small Icosahedral Viruses

    Author : Pavel Plevka; Lars Liljas; Kaspars Tars; Michael Chapman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; biologi; med inriktning mot strukturbiologi; Biology; with specialization in structural biology;

    Abstract : This thesis presents structural studies on the plant virus Ryegrass mottle virus (RGMoV), the bacteriophage φCb5, and the icosahedral particles and octahedral crystal assembly of a bacteriophage MS2 coat protein mutant. In contrast to other sobemoviruses, the RGMoV coat protein is missing several residues in two of the loop regions important for capsid assembly. READ MORE

  4. 4. Benzene-char conversion and particle-vapor characterization in biomass gasification

    Author : Mario Morgalla; Michael Strand; Leteng Lin; Henrik Wiinikka; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biomass gasification; fluidized bed; particulate matter; aerosol; char; tars; benzene conversion.; Bioenergiteknik Energi- och Miljöteknik; Bioenergy Technology;

    Abstract : Biomass is increasingly attracting attention as an alternative to fossil fuels. Gasification permits the thermochemical conversion of biomass into a product gas rich in carbon monoxide and hydrogen. The product gas can be further processed to generate heat, electricity, synthesis gas, chemicals, and biofuels. READ MORE

  5. 5. Study of the activity of catalysts for the production of high quality biomass gasification gas : with emphasis on Ni-substituted Ba-hexaaluminates

    Author : Charlotte Parsland; Jan Brandin; Anders Holmen; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bioenergy; catalysis; tars; steam reforming; gasification; hexaaluminate; bioenergi; katalys; tjäror; ångreformering; förgasning; hexaaluminat; Bioenergiteknik Energi- och Miljöteknik; Bioenergy Technology; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The fossil hydrocarbons are not inexhaustible, and their use is not without impact in our need of energy, fuels and hydrocarbons as building blocks for organic materials. The quest for renewable, environmentally more friendly technologies are in need and woody biomass is a promising candidate, well provided in the boreal parts of the world. READ MORE
