1. Sharing Good Examples, Then What? : Investigations of Contingency and Continuity in the Scaling-of-ESD-Activities-as-Learning
Abstract : This thesis aims to contribute to a deepened and nuanced understanding of scaling in environmental and sustainability education (ESE) research, specifically, to develop a conceptual framework for engaging with issues of scaling in policy and practice regarding education for sustainable development (ESD). Three research objectives are formulated. READ MORE

2. On Enhancement and Quality Assessment of Audio and Video in Communication Systems
Abstract : The use of audio and video communication has increased exponentially over the last decade and has gone from speech over GSM to HD resolution video conference between continents on mobile devices. As the use becomes more widespread the interest in delivering high quality media increases even on devices with limited resources. READ MORE

3. The Principle of Scaling of Geographic Space and its Application in Urban Studies
Abstract : Geographic space is the large-scale and continuous space that encircles the earth and in which human activities occur. The study of geographic space has drawn attention in many different fields and has been applied in a variety of studies, including those on cognition, urban planning and navigation systems. READ MORE

4. Peakflow response of stream networks : implications of physical descriptions of streams and temporal change
Abstract : Through distributed stream network routing, it has quantitatively been shown that the relationship between flow travel time and discharge varies strongly nonlinearly with stream stage and with catchment-specific properties.Physically derived distributions of water travel times through a stream network were successfully used to parameterise the streamflow response function of a compartmental hydrological model. 5. Scaling and Gating Attosecond Pulse Generation
Abstract : High-order harmonic generation (HHG) provides the basis for attosecond light sources delivering coherent pulses in the extreme ultraviolet spectral region. Such light sources are employed for a variety of applications within imaging, attosecond spectroscopy, and high-precision frequency metrology. READ MORE
