  1. 1. Coordination Chemistry of Monocarboxylate and Aminocarboxylate Complexes at the Water/Goethite Interface

    Author : Katarina Norén; Per Persson; Staffan Sjöberg; Stephan J. Hug; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acetate; benzoate; adsorption; surface complex; ternary surface complexes; ATR-FTIR spectroscopy; EXAFS spectroscopy.; cyclohexanecarboxylate; sarcosine; MIDA; EDDA; EDTA; gallium III ; goethite; mineral surface; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis is a summary of five papers with focus on adsorption processes of various monocarboxylates and aminocarboxylates at the water/goethite interface. Interaction of organic acids at the water/mineral interfaces are of importance in biogeochemical processes, since such processes have potential to alter mobility and bioavailability of the acids and metal ions. Abstract : The chemistry of mineral surfaces is of great importance in many different areas including natural processes occurring in oceans, rivers, lakes and soils. Manganese (hydr)oxides are one important group to these natural processes, and the thermodynamically most stable trivalent manganese (hydr)oxide, manganit (γ-MnOOH), is studied in this thesis. Abstract : Stoichiometry, ligand exchange reactions, coordinationgeometry and stability of complexes of type UO2LpFq(H2O)3-n(p= 1–2,q= 1-3), where L is one of the bidentate ligandspicolinate, oxalate, carbonate or acetate have beeninvestigated using single crystal X-ray diffraction, an arrayof19F-,13C-,17O- and1H-NMR techniques and potentiometric titration usingboth F-and H+selective electrodes. The experiments wereperformed in a 1. READ MORE

  4. 4. The Synthesis of Molecular Switches Based Upon Ru(II) Polypyridyl Architecture for Electronic Applications

    Author : Robert Steen; Simon Dunne; Jan Bergman; Mälardalens högskola; []

    Abstract : According to the famous axiom known as Moore’s Law the number of transistors that can be etched on a given piece of silicon, and therefore the computing power, will double every 18 to 24 months. For the last 40 years Moore’s prediction has held true as computers have grown more and more powerful. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modeling of glyphosate and metal-glyphosate speciation in solution and at solution-mineral interfaces

    Author : Caroline Jonsson; Staffan Sjöberg; Per Persson; Bernd Nowack; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Glyphosate (N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine, PMG, H3L) is a widely used organophosphorous herbicide. It interacts with metal ions and mineral surfaces, which may affect its mobility, degradation and bioavailability in the environment. However, these interactions are far from fully understood.
