  1. 1. Tropical aspects of real polynomials and hypergeometric functions

    Author : Jens Forsgård; Boris Shapiro; Grigory Mikhalkin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Amoeba; Tropical Geometry; Hypergeometric function; Geometry of zeros; Discriminant; Mathematics; matematik;

    Abstract : The present thesis has three main topics: geometry of coamoebas, hypergeometric functions, and geometry of zeros.First, we study the coamoeba of a Laurent polynomial f in n complex variables. We define a simpler object, which we call the lopsided coamoeba, and associate to the lopsided coamoeba an order map. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modelling Weather Dynamics for Weather Derivatives Pricing

    Author : Emanuel Evarest Sinkwembe; Martin Singull; Xiangfeng Yang; Fredrik Berntsson; Erik Lindström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on developing an appropriate stochastic model for temperature dynamics as a means of pricing weather derivative contracts based on temperature. There are various methods for pricing weather derivatives ranging from simple one like historical burn analysis, which does not involve modeling the underlying weather variable to complex ones that require Monte Carlo simulations to achieve explicit weather derivatives contract prices, particularly the daily average temperature (DAT) dynamics models. 3. 3. Symplectic Embeddings and results in TDA

    Author : Alvin Jin; Wojciech Chacholski; Gregory Arone; Henry Adams; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : This thesis is a collection of work under the theme of “applied topology."  The linking idea behind seemingly disjoint fields is the existence of a filtration that one uses to study a space. In turn, given the ubiquitous nature of filtrations, applications range from theoretical fields (e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the linearization of non-Archimedean holomorphic functions near an indifferent fixed point

    Author : Karl-Olof Lindahl; Andrei Khrennikov; Franco Vivaldi; Växjö universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dynamical system; linearization; conjugation; non-Archimedean field; Algebra; geometry and mathematical analysis; Algebra; geometri och analys; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : We consider the problem of local linearization of power series defined over complete valued fields. The complex field case has been studied since the end of the nineteenth century, and renders a delicate number theoretical problem of small divisors related to diophantine approximation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Methods and Applications in Integer Programming : All-Integer Column Generation and Nurse Scheduling

    Author : Elina Rönnberg; Torbjörn Larsson; Fredrik Altenstedt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; integer programming; column generation; set partitioning problems; quasi-integrality; nurse scheduling; Optimization; systems theory; Optimeringslära; systemteori;

    Abstract : Integer programming can be used to provide solutionsto complex decision and planning problems occurring in a wide varietyof situations. Applying integer programming to a real life problembasically involves a first phase where a mathematical model isconstructed, and a second phase where the problem described by themodel is solved.
