  1. 16. Antidepressant drug effects in vivo: Focus on pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic responses in different experimental paradigms

    Author : Cecilia Wikell; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; portacaval shunt; pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamics; hepatic encephalopathy; enantiomers; drug safety; drug disposition; citalopram; antidepressants; brain microdialysis; behaviour; venlafaxine; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic activities of the antidepressants venlafaxine (VEN) and citalopram (CIT) were investigated in the portacaval shunted (PCS) rat, a model of chronic hepatic encephalopathy (HE), and normal/control rats. The levels of VEN in serum and brain were higher in PCS rats than in controls after a single injection and chronic treatment with VEN (10 mg/kg). READ MORE

  2. 17. β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA)-induced neurotoxicity : Studies in vitro and in vivo

    Author : Lisa Ersson; Malin Andersson; Eva B Brittebo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; BMAA; neurotoxin; neurodegeneration; cellular transport; metabolic profiling; protein-association; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Abstract : β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) is a neurotoxic non-proteinogenic amino acid produced naturally by cyanobacteria, diatoms and dinoflagellates and it has been detected in samples from fresh and marine water from all over the world. It can bioaccumulate in fish and shellfish, and has a potential to biomagnify in a terrestrial food chain. READ MORE

  3. 18. Platelet Adhesion to Proteins in Microplates : Applications in Experimental and Clinical Research

    Author : Andreas Eriksson; Per Whiss; Håkan Wallén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; platelets; platelet adhesion; platelet assay; synergistic activation; thrombosis; anti-platelet treatment; Pharmacology; Farmakologi;

    Abstract : Platelets are crucial for prevention of blood loss after vessel injury. Platelet adhesion to disrupted vessel walls is mediated by receptors such as the GPIb-IX-V complex that binds von Willebrand factor and the collagen-binding integrin α2β1. READ MORE

  4. 19. Management of chemical risk through occupational exposure limits

    Author : Linda Schenk; Christina Rudén; Michael Gilek; Maria Albin; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; occupational exposure limit; risk assessment; risk management; chemicals regulation; regulatory toxicology; European Union; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Abstract : Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) are used as an important regulatory instrument to protect workers’ health from adverse effects of chemical exposures. The OELs mirror the outcome of the risk assessment and risk management performed by the standard setting actor. READ MORE

  5. 20. Therapeutic Drug Monitoring in Psychiatry : Some aspects of utility in clinical practice and research

    Author : Maria Dolores Chermá Yeste; Finn Bengtsson; Johan Ahlner; Ylva Böttiger; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TDM; psychoactive drug; pharmacokinetics; pharmacogenetics; naturalistic; elderly; child; Clinical pharmacology; Klinisk farmakologi;

    Abstract : Background and objectives: Several new psychoactive drugs for the treatment of psychiatric disorders have been introduced onto the market since the late 1980s. Basic aspects of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics (PK) are investigated before approval for general prescription. READ MORE
