  1. 1. On direct hydrogen fuel cell vehicles : modelling and demonstration

    Author : Kristina Haraldsson; Per Alvfors; Dougal J. Nelson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical engineering; direct hydrogen; Proton Exchange Membrane; PEM; fuel cell; fuel cell vehicle; fuel cell hybrid vehicles; on-board hydrogen storage; Kemiteknik; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, direct hydrogen Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell systems in vehicles are investigated through modelling, field tests and public acceptance surveys. A computer model of a 50 kW PEM fuel cell system was developed. The fuel cell system efficiency is approximately 50% between 10 and 45% of the rated power. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fuel conversion and ash formation interactions : a thermochemical study on lignocellulosic biomass

    Author : Anna Strandberg; Markus Broström; Rainer Backman; Christoffer Boman; Maria Zevenhoven; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Char conversion; pyrolysis; devolatilization; ash transformation; biomass; fuel characterization; fuel composition; ash composition; silicate formation; carbonate formation; thermogravimetric analysis; micro-tomography;

    Abstract : Biomass is considered to be CO2 neutral, and to be able to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels the need for expanded and sustainable biomass feedstock is increasing. Ash-related problems are some of the most important aspects of this increasing use of new biomass assortments in thermal energy conversion systems. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies of Nuclear Fuel Performance Using On-site Gamma-ray Spectroscopy and In-pile Measurements

    Author : Ingvar Matsson; Anders Bäcklin; Ane Håkansson; Björn Grapengiesser; Riitta Kyrky-Rajamäki; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Nuclear physics; fission gas release; nuclear fuel; core physics; gamma-ray spectroscopy; LOKET; thermal power; burnup; fuel failure; validation; cladding; Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Presently there is a clear trend of increasing demands on in-pile performance of nuclear fuel. Higher target burnups, part length rods and various fuel additives are some examples of this trend. READ MORE

  4. 4. Investigation of Emission Characteristics for Diluted Flames and Renewable Fuels in Gas Turbine Combustors

    Author : Fredrik Hermann; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; framdrivningssystem; Motorer; termodynamik; Motors and propulsion systems; Termisk teknik; applied thermodynamics; Thermal engineering; combustor rig experiments; combustor reactor models; synthetic fuel; liquid fuel; gaseous fuel; UHC; CO; NOx; emission measurements; CO2 enriched; humidified combustion; diluted combustion; premixed combustion; Gas turbine; combustion chamber; Energiforskning; Energy research;

    Abstract : Gas turbines have served as economically profitable and reliable generators of power for the past few decades, and have mainly been used in simple and combined cycles. The increased restrictions on hazardous emissions and the increased demand for profitability have created new prospects for innovative power cycles. READ MORE

  5. 5. Analysis of PEM Fuel Cell Stacks and Systems with Water/Thermal Balances

    Author : Takamasa Ito; Värmeöverföring; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Thermal engineering; applied thermodynamics; Termisk teknik; termodynamik; PEM Fuel Cell Systems ; Water Thermal Balances ; Heat Exchangers ; PEM Fuel Cell Stacks ;

    Abstract : The Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell has been investigated for a long time, and is regarded as a new energy source for various applications, such as portable, stationary and automotive ones. However, due to the shortage of the infrastructure in the society, the high cost, the difficulty of the water/thermal management, etc. READ MORE
