  1. 1. Towards prediction in ungauged aquifers – methods for comparative regional analysis

    Author : Ezra Haaf; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Groundwater; Prediction in ungagued aquifers; Comparative hydrogeology; Similarity; Groundwater hydrographs; Groundwater dynamics; Time series clustering; Groundwater climate interaction; Classification; Regression; Groundwater storage; Groundwater resources management;

    Abstract : Hydrogeological investigations and in particular groundwater resource assessments are strongly reliant on understanding the factors controlling groundwater level dynamics. However, historical records of measured groundwater levels are often scarce and unevenly distributed in space and time. READ MORE

  2. 2. Groundwater-Seawater Interactions : Seawater Intrusion, Submarine Groundwater Discharge and Temporal Variability and Randomness Effects

    Author : Carmen Prieto; Georgia Destouni; Vassilios Kaleris; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydraulic engineering; Seawater intrusion; submarine groundwater discharge; coastal groundwater management; coastal zone management; temporal variability; temporal randomness; Vattenteknik; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : Fresh groundwater quality and availability in coastal areas is affected by seawater intrusion into coastal aquifers, and coastal water quality and ecosystem status may be significantly affected by groundwater pollutants that are transported into coastal waters by submarine groundwater dis-charge (SGD). This thesis uses an overall regional perspective for investigating: i) seawater intru-sion and its possible control in sustainable coastal groundwater management; ii) SGD and its relevant quantification as one interacting part among the diverse main regional pathways of freshwater and tracer/pollutant inputs from land to sea; and iii) the integrated system functioning of both i) and ii) as main components of the same coastal groundwater system. 3. 3. Permafrost Groundwater Dynamics : Modeling of vertical and lateral flows in the active layer across multiple scales

    Author : Alexandra Hamm; Andrew Frampton; Peter Kuhry; Jeffrey McKenzie; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; permafrost; climate change; numerical modeling; hydrogeology; groundwater; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : Hydrological processes in the Arctic are profoundly influenced by the presence of permanently frozen ground, known as permafrost. Conversely, permafrost is greatly affected by hydrological changes resulting from climate change. READ MORE

  4. 4. Chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons; an interdisciplinary study of degradation and distribution in complex environments

    Author : Sofia Åkesson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Groundwater; Groundwater chemistry; Contamination; Chlorinated solvents; In situ remediation; Biodegradation; PCR; DCIP; CSIA;

    Abstract : In this thesis degradation of chlorinated solvents, e.g., tetrachloroethene (perchloroethylene [PCE]), has been examined, both natural occurring degradation and in situ remediation strategies. READ MORE

  5. 5. Secondary currents in groundwater

    Author : Maria Engström; Bo Nordell; Anders Sellgren; Clifford Voss; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Groundwater; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : The thesis concerns the small vertical water movements created by thermal convection and the Coriolis force acting on groundwater flows. These small flows are of importance to vertical transports of temperature, nutrients and contaminants that would not be spread in the way they are. READ MORE
