1. Railway Wheelsets: Theory, Experiments and Design Considering Temperatures, Stresses and Deformations as Induced by Braking Loads and Contact Forces
Abstract : Railway wheelset components exposed to braking loads and contact forces have been studied. The work has been performed in close cooperation with the Swedish wheelset manufacturer ABB SURA Traction AB, and it has resulted in one brake disc prototype and two different wheel prototypes. 2. Mechanical braking systems for trains: A study of temperatures, fatigue and wear by experiments and simulations
Abstract : Increased demand for shorter travel times, higher axle loads, increased volumes and increased punctuality of railway traffic calls for a better design and management of the railway subsystems. The present thesis deals with aspects of mechanical friction brakes, in the form of tread brakes and disc brakes. READ MORE

3. On Derailment-Worthiness in Rail Vehicle Design : Analysis of vehicle features influencing derailment processes and consequences
Abstract : This thesis aims at systematically studying the possibilities of minimizing devastating consequences of high-speed rail vehicle derailments by appropriate measures and features in the train design including the running gear. Firstly, an empirical database is established containing as much relevant information as possible of past incidents and accidents that have occurred at substantial running speeds due to mechanical failure close to the interface between the running gear and the track. 4. Mechatronic aspects of an innovative two-axle railway vehicle
Abstract : Within the Shift2Rail research program the goals for a sustainable growth of the railway sector are set. Among these are substantial reduction of Life Cycle Costs, improved reliability and energy efficiency, the reductionof noise emissions, and the achievement of full interoperability of the rolling stock. 5. On the Influence of Rail Vehicle Parameters on the Derailment Process and its Consequences
Abstract : This thesis aims at systematically studying the possibilities of minimising devastatingconsequences of high-speed derailments by appropriate measures and features in thetrain design, including the running gear. The course of events immediately afterderailments is studied with respect to whether the train stays upright and close to thetrack centre line or deviates laterally with probably serious consequences.
