  1. 1. AlN Thin Film Electroacoustic Devices

    Author : Gonzalo Fuentes Iriarte; I.V. Katardjiev; G.F. Iriarte; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik; Electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik; elektronik; Electronics;

    Abstract : Recently, the enormous growth in personal communications systems (PCS), satellite communication and various other forms of wireless data communication has made analogue frequency control a key issue as the operation frequency increases to the low/medium GHz range. Surface acoustic wave (SAW) and bulk acoustic wave (BAW) electroacoustic devices are widely used today in a variety of applications both in consumer electronics as well as in specialized scientific and military equipment where frequency control is required. 2. 2. Alumina Thin Films : From Computer Calculations to Cutting Tools

    Author : Erik Wallin; Ulf Helmersson; Patrick Desjardins; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alumina; thin films; coatings; sputtering; density functional theory; high power impulse magnetron sputtering; HIPIMS; Material physics with surface physics; Materialfysik med ytfysik; Surface engineering; Ytbehandlingsteknik; Surfaces and interfaces; Ytor och mellanytor;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis deals with experimental and theoretical studies related to alumina thin films. Alumina, Al2O3, is a polymorphic material utilized in a variety of applications, e.g., in the form of thin films. READ MORE

  3. 3. ZrB2 Thin Films : Growth and Characterization

    Author : Lina Tengdelius; Hans Högberg; Urban Forsberg; Gregory S. Girolami; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Zirconium diboride, ZrB2, is a ceramic material with bulk properties such as high melting point (3245 °C), high hardness (23 GPa), and low resistivity (~8 μΩcm). Thin film growth of ZrB2 using physical vapor deposition has suffered from problems with films deviating from stoichiometry and with high levels of contaminants, especially high oxygen content. 4. 4. Very thin magnets : X-rays, lasers and spectroscopy

    Author : Jonathan Hunter Dunn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The magnetic properties of transition metal films are investigated using synchrotron based x-ray absorption and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. These techniques are elementally selective and may therefore be used, either to probe a specific element in a multicomponent system or, as very sensitive magnetometers. READ MORE

  5. 5. MAX phase thin films : unique multifunctional ceramics with the elements Ti, Si, Ge, Sn, and C

    Author : Jens Emmerlich; Wolfhard Möller; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Thin solid films; Single-crystal; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Mn+1AXn phases are ternary carbides or nitrides (X) consisting of an early transition metal (M), and (A)- group element (group III-V). They combine ceramic and metallic properties with high oxidation and thermal shock resistance as well as low resistivity. READ MORE
