  1. 16. Enabling Fast and Accurate Run-Time Decisions in Geo-Distributed Systems : Better Achieving Service Level Objectives

    Author : Kirill Bogdanov; Dejan Kostic; Gerald Q. Maguire Jr.; Bill Yoshimi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cloud Computing; Geo-Distributed Systems; Replica Selection Algorithms.; Molntjänster; Geodistribuerade system; Valalgoritmer för replikas; Computer Science; Datalogi;

    Abstract : Computing services are highly integrated into modern society and used  by millions of people daily. To meet these high demands, many popular  services are implemented and deployed as geo-distributed applications on  top of third-party virtualized cloud providers. However, the nature of  such a deployment leads to variable performance. READ MORE

  2. 17. Movement strategies and dynamic knee control after anterior cruciate ligament injury : a three-dimensional biomechanical analysis

    Author : Jonas L. Markström; Charlotte K. Häger; Eva Tengman; Helena Grip; Lina Schelin; Jim Richards; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anterior cruciate ligament; biomechanics; kinematics; kinetics; finite helical axis; injury prevention; sports; reliability; agreement; one-leg hops; functional data analysis; physiotherapy; fysioterapi;

    Abstract : Background: Rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is common and mainly occurs in non-contact situations in sports, often due to momentarily poor movement control. Assessment of movement quality during sport-like tasks iscrucial to understand how to decrease the high risk of reinjury for ACL-injured persons, but also how to prevent primary injury. READ MORE

  3. 18. Radio Spectrum Regulation in the European Union A three-level context

    Author : Maria Massaro; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; allocation; assignment; shared competence; radio spectrum regulation; European Union;

    Abstract : In the light of the unprecedented growth of mobile broadband services, radio spectrum regulation is undergoing a substantial review in the European Union (EU). The radio spectrum presents a three-level regulatory context. At international level, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) regulates the allocation of radio spectrum. READ MORE

  4. 19. Optimization of Low-Level Controllers and High-Level Polymer Grade Changes

    Author : Per-Ola Larsson; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; process control; PID control; robustness; noise sensitivity; dynamic optimization; polymerization; Modelica;

    Abstract : Two design problems at different levels in the control hierarchy are considered; optimization of robust low-level controllers with constrained control signal activity and optimization of economical high-level polyethylene grade changes. As for the first design problem, a constraint on control signal activity due to measurement noise is presented and used when optimizing and comparing PI/PID controllers with measurement filters of different orders. 5. 20. Education and Fertility : Dynamic Interrelations between Women’s Educational Level, Educational Field and Fertility in Sweden

    Author : Karin Tesching; Gunnar Andersson; Ronald R. Rindfuss; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; education; educational level; educational field; fertility; Sweden; Demography; demografi;

    Abstract : This thesis analyses three aspects of the link between a woman’s educational trajectory and her childbearing behaviour. Special attention is paid to educational field as a further dimension of education next to educational enrolment and educational level. READ MORE
