  1. 1. Vibration transfer process during vibratory sheet pile driving : from source to soil

    Author : Fanny Deckner; Staffan Hintze; Kenneth Viking; Steinar Nordal; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ground vibrations; sheet piles; vibratory driving; vibration transfer process; instrumentation system; field tests; numerical modelling; vibration prediction; markvibrationer; spont; vibrodrivning; vibrationsöverföringsprocessen; instrumenteringssystem; fältförsök; numerisk modellering; vibrationsprognosticering; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract : Vibratory driven sheet piles are a cost-effective retaining wall structure, and in coming decades the continued use of this method will be crucial for minimising costs within the construction sector. However, vibratory driven sheet piles are a source of ground vibrations, which may harm structures or induce disturbance. READ MORE

  2. 2. Investigation of Suffusion in Glacial Till Dam Cores : Testing methods and critical hydraulic gradients

    Author : Ingrid Silva; Jan Laue; Peter Viklander; Thomas Pabst; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; internal erosion; suffusion; glacial till; dam cores; dams; experimental investigation; hydraulic gradient; testing methods; cohesionless soils; granular soils; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : Suffusion is an internal erosion mechanism that occurs in embankment dams when fine grained particles in the dam core are washed out by seepage. Initiation of internal erosion depends mainly on three major factors: grain size distribution of the soil, stress conditions and hydraulic gradient; whilst its continuation depends on the properties of the filter. 3. 3. Soil improvement based on environmental geotechnics : environmental and geotechnical aspects of drainage of redox-sensitive soils and stabilisation of soils with by-products

    Author : Josef Mácsik; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : I avhandlingen behandlas Miljögeotekniska problem som "dränering av redox-sensitiva jordar", "blockstabilisering av sulfidjord och torvjord" och " undersökning av nya vägmaterial". - Miljöproblem, kopplat till dränering och/eller urgrävning av redox-sensitiva jordar, som järnhaltiga moräner och sulfidjordar, behandlas i denna avhandling. 4. 4. Suffusion of Glacial Till Dam Cores : An Experimental Investigation

    Author : Ingrid Silva; Jan Laue; Peter Viklander; Cristina Jommi; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : Suffusion, also called internal instability, is an internal erosion mechanism that occurs in embankment dams when fine-grained particles are washed out of the core soil matrix by seepage. Initiation of internal erosion depends mainly on three major factors: grain size distribution of the soil, stress conditions and hydraulic load; whilst its continuation depends of the filter properties. 5. 5. Geotechnical risk management using the observational method

    Author : Mats Tidlund; Stefan Larsson; Johan Spross; Håkan Stille; Jan Bröchner; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; risk; risk management; geotechnical engineering; contractual framework; observational method; risk; riskhantering; geoteknik; kontrakt; observationsmetoden; Soil and Rock Mechanics; Jord- och bergmekanik;

    Abstract : There have been many cost overruns, time delays and quality problems reported from geotechnical engineering projects around the world during recent decades. Many of the reported problems are associated with risks related to the geotechnical conditions. READ MORE
