    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; units of measurement; design standards; timber structure; Chinese architecture; building patterns; carpentry system; construction principles; proportion; modular design;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the building standards and construction principles prescribed and used in the construction of state buildings of the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279), China, from the viewpoint of architectural design. It aims to answer three fundamental questions: (1) What measuring system was used in the carpentry design and construction? (2) What building scales and proportions were prescribed for and used in state buildings of the time? (3) What were the interrelations of the structural patterns and roof types, and what were their relationships to the building scales and proportions? The thesis begins by providing detailed explanations of the highly refined and unique Song period modular system which governed not only the sizes of each individual elements, but also the dimensions of structural grids and the proportion of entire building. 2. 17. Timber Pile-Supported Embankments : Arching and Reinforcement

    Author : Per Gunnvard; Jan Laue; Hans Mattsson; Qi Jia; Luc Thorel; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; timber piles; piled embankment; geosynthetic reinforcement; geosynthetic-reinforced pile-supported embankment; arching; finite element method; full-scale test; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : Reduced climate impact is a worldwide strive today. The foundation engineering industry is continuously searching for more sustainable solutions to reduce resource usage and pollutions directly or indirectly. One such solution is timber piling, as an alternative to the commonly used concrete and steel piles. READ MORE

  3. 18. Overcoming organizational lock-in in decision-making : Construction clients facing innovation

    Author : Erika Hedgren; Suvi Nenonen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Träbyggnad; Timber Structures;

    Abstract : The role of clients in construction innovation is receiving increasingresearch attention due to their perceived tendencies to adhere to conventional practices preserving the status-quo. The aim of this thesis is to improve understanding of construction client organizations’ behaviour that affects their ability to overcome organizational lock-in in their new-build decision-making processes, and thus their ability to adopt innovation.
