  1. 1. Tissue Perfusion and Oxygenation Evaluated by Measurements of Tissue Gases and pH. An Experiemental Study

    Author : Åke Mellström; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; Anaesthesiology; Tissue pH; Tissue PCO2; Oxygen utilization; Tissue PO2;

    Abstract : Optimum peripheral perfusion, oxygenation and oxygen utilization is a prerequisite for normal wound healing, resistance to infection and cardiac function. The purpose of this study was to evaluate peripheral oxygen utilization by measurements of subcutaneous tissue gases and pH (PscO2, PscCO2 and pHsc) in comparison to established techniques for measurements of periph-eral tissue oxygenation and oxygen utilization in experimental animal models with hyperoxia-hypoxia, acidosis-alkalosis and haemorrhage-resuscitation. 2. 2. Brain Tissue Oxygenation in Traumatic Brain Injury : Experimental and Clinical Studies

    Author : Karlis Purins; Anders Lewén; Per Enblad; Oliver Sakowitz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Brain tissue oxygenation; Cerebral metabolism; Traumatic brain injury; Cerebral ischemia; Threshold levels; Neurovent-PTO; Microdialysis; Neurosurgery; Neurokirurgi;

    Abstract : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of death and disability. TBI is frequently followed by cerebral ischemia which is a great contributor to secondary brain damage. The main causes of cerebral ischemia are pathophysiological changes in cerebral blood flow and metabolism. READ MORE

  3. 3. Synchronized delivery of inspired nitric oxide : Effects on oxygenation and pulmonary tension during artificial ventilation

    Author : Erkki Heinonen; Tim Higenbottam; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; nitric oxide; pulsed administration; pulmonary hypertension; oxygenation; equine; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : Nitric oxide (NO) is a mediator of vascular smooth muscle tension that metabolises rapidly in blood. NO delivered by inhalation can therefore be used as a selective pulmonary vasodilator to relieve pulmonary hypertension or to improve oxygenation with no systemic effects. READ MORE

  4. 4. Theoretical modelling of tumour oxygenation and influences on treatment outcome

    Author : Iuliana Toma-Dasu; Mikael Karlsson; Svensson Hans; J F Fowler; Borivoj Vojnovic; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiation sciences; Computer simulation; Electrode; Polarographic measurements; Tumour oxygenation; Hypoxia; Strålningsvetenskap; Radiation biology; Strålningsbiologi; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Abstract : One of the main problems in curing cancer resides in the different microenvironment existing in tumours compared to the normal tissues. The mechanisms of failure are different for radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but they all relate to the poor blood supply known to exist in tumours. READ MORE

  5. 5. Non-invasive optical monitoring of free and bound oxygen in humans

    Author : Emilie Krite Svanberg; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intensive care; oxygenation; free gas; near-infrared spectroscopy; absorption spectroscopy; scattering;

    Abstract : Background: Possibilities of detecting oxygen - both in its free form, as gas in the lungs, and in its bound form, as oxygenated hemoglobin - have been explored in this thesis. Perfusion and oxygenation of vital organs (e.g. READ MORE
