  1. 1. On wear of wood-cutting tools : Tool materials, wear mechanisms and modelling

    Author : Johan Nordström; []
    Keywords : Tool material; Wood cutting; Wear; Modelling;

    Abstract : Bandsaw blades are commonly used in the sawmill industry for timber cutting. The saw teeth are gradually worn during cutting and will finally cause unacceptable surface roughness and dimensional deviations on the sawn wood product. Maintenance by re-sharpening of the saw teeth is therefore necessary after a certain time of sawing. READ MORE

  2. 2. Orofacial pain and tooth wear in swedish adults : cross-sectional studies in southern Sweden

    Author : Susanna Gillborg; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TMD; Tooth abrasion; Tandnedslitning; Smärta; Etiologi;

    Abstract : Aim. The present licentiate thesis investigated the prevalence of TMDpainand related factors, the prevalence and severity of tooth wear, andthe etiology and factors related to tooth wear in adults in southern Sweden.Methods. The methods used included a questionnaire, history, clinical examination,intraoral photographs, and saliva sample. READ MORE

  3. 3. On tribological design in gear tooth contacts

    Author : Ellen Bergseth; Ulf Olofsson; Karsten Stahl; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; friction; gear contact; gear manufacturing; surface boundary layers; surface topography; wear;

    Abstract : The correct tribological design will have a considerable effect on a gear’s service life and efficiency. The purpose of this thesis is to clarify the impact of variation in the gear tooth flank tribological system on the gear contact load capacity – to increase the understanding of how surface topography and lubricant interact. 4. 4. Simulation of contact, friction and wear in gears : a finite element approach

    Author : Olle Lundvall; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Gears; Gear noise; Contact mechanics; Simulation; Friction; Wear; Transmission error;

    Abstract : In this thesis, resent methods in computational contact mechanics is brought into the process of gear design. The finite element method is used to model two elastic bodies in contact. By defining a contact interface between these two bodies, constitutive laws, regarding normal contact, friction and wear, are included. READ MORE

  5. 5. Optimisation of Machining Operations by means of Finite Element Method and Tailored Experiments

    Author : Amir Malakizadi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Usui wear model; Bi-metals; Flank wear; Johnson-Cook; Inverse identification; Metal cutting; Thermal fatigue cracking; Wear modelling; Finite element method; Response surface methodology;

    Abstract : Traditionally, costly experimental procedures have been followed in industry to optimise the machining operations to secure the maximum efficiency in production line, while the functional requirements of the machined surfaces are fulfilled. In recent years, development of robust numerical techniques such as Finite Element Method (FEM) and advances in computing capacity of computers have made it possible to simulate the machining operations under operational conditions.
