  1. 1. Fuel Ethanol Production from Corn Stover: Optimization of Steam Pretreatment and Improvement of Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation

    Author : Karin Öhgren; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fuels and explosives technology; petrochemistry; Carbochemistry; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Chemical technology and engineering; Energiforskning; corn stover; Energy research; prehydrolysis; enzymatic hydrolysis; SSF; SO2; steam pretreatment; Ethanol production; Petrokemi; bränslen; sprängämnen; pentose fermentation;

    Abstract : Fuel ethanol, produced from biomass, could well be tomorrow's replacement for gasoline. This thesis deals with the production of fuel ethanol from corn stover using an enzymatic process consisting of the following main steps: steam pretreatment of the raw material, enzymatic hydrolysis, fermentation of the sugars and ethanol refining. 2. 2. The initial phase of sodium sulfite pulping of softwood : A comparison of different pulping options

    Author : Raghu Deshpande; Ulf Germgård; Pedro Fardim; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Activation energy; acid sulfite pulping; bisulfite pulping; cellulose; delignification; dissolving pulp; extractives; glucomannan; hemicelluloses; lignin; lignin condensation; lignin carbohydrate complexes; pine; spruce; thiosulfate; total SO2; xylan; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Single stage and two-stage sodium sulfite cooking were carried out on either spruce, pine or pure pine heartwood chips to investigate the influence of several process parameters on the initial phase of such a cook down to about 60 % pulp yield. The cooking experiments were carried out in the laboratory with either a lab-prepared or a mill-prepared cooking acid and the temperature and time were varied. READ MORE

  3. 3. The initial phase of the sodium bisulfite pulping of softwood dissolving pulp

    Author : Raghu Deshpande; Ulf Germgård; Martin Ragnar; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Activation energy; bisulfite pulping; cellulose; delignification; extractives; glucomannan; hemicelluloses; lignin; pine; spruce; thiosulfate; total SO2; xylan; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The sulfite pulping process is today practised in only a small number of pulp mills around the globe and the number of sulfite mills that use sodium as the base (cation) is less than five. However, due to the increasing interest in the wood based biorefinery concept, the benefits of sulfite pulping and especially the sodium based variety, has recently gained a lot of interest. 4. 4. NH3-SCR over Cu-zeolite catalysts: activity and deactivation studies

    Author : Kurnia Wijayanti; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cu‑SAPO-34; internal mass transfer limitation; NH3‑SCR; Cu-zeolite; hydrothermal aging; SO2 poisoning; Cu‑Beta; Cu‑SSZ‑13;

    Abstract : NOx emission is one of the major contributors to air pollution especially in the urban environment. The most frequently applied technique to reduce NOx from diesel engine is to employ ammonia selective catalytic reduction (NH3-SCR) using Cu‑zeolite as the catalyst. READ MORE

  5. 5. Sulfur Capture and Oxidation of Calcium Sulfide in PFBC

    Author : Kuanrong Qiu; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; oxidation; model; pressure; sulfur; PFBC; CaS; limestone; CaSO4; PTGA; regeneration;

    Abstract : Sorbents such as limestone are successfully used for removal of SO2 during pressurized fluidized bed combustion (PFBC) processes. However, there still remains a strong incentive to reduce the consumption of such sorbents. READ MORE
