  2. 2. Metal Speciation and Toxicity in Sewage Sludge

    Author : Annika Ekvall; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; partition coefficient; toxicity; speciation; sewage sludge; fractionation; metals;

    Abstract : Increasingly stringent controls on metal concentrations in sewage sludge destined for agricultural application provided a basis for the study of the relevance of metal speciation in sewage sludge. A comprehensive literature review identified difficulties in relating metal speciation through single chemical extractions to plant uptake and soil toxicity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Uptake and toxicity of brominated flame retardants and pesticides : Studies on littoral organisms and model communities

    Author : Kerstin Gustafsson; Nils Kautsky; Kirsten Christoffersen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aquatic ecotoxicology; ecological interactions; indirect effects; model community studies; toxicity; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, brackish and freshwater littoral model communities (microcosms) of varying size and complexity were used to study the effects of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and pesticides. The brackish water microcosms consisted of natural water, sediment and associated organisms, while the larger freshwater microcosms also contained submersed macrophytes (Elodea canadensis). 4. 4. Methodology for evaluation of hazards from solid waste and landfill-generated leachate

    Author : Britt-Marie Svensson; Lennart Mathiasson; Lennart Mårtensson; Ann-Sofi Rehnstam-Holm; Kenneth M. Persson; Högskolan Kristianstad; []

    Abstract : A methodology based on an analytical protocol for evaluation of hazards from landfill leachate and solid waste is described. A dynamic analytical protocol, the LAQUA protocol, including measurements of inorganic and water-quality parameters, polar and non-polar organic marker compounds, and toxicity, was constructed.
