1. Complex Trait Genetics : Beyond Additivity
Abstract : The link between the genotype and the phenotype of an organism is immensely complex. Despite this it can, to a great extent, be captured using models that assume that gene variants combine their effects in an additive manner. This thesis explores aspects of genetics that cannot be fully captured using such additive models. READ MORE

2. Investigation of immunological preconditions in MS patients "MS immunopathic trait"
Abstract : We examined 47 MS patients, 47 healthy siblings and 50 healthy unrelated individuals with blood and CSF analysis and found that 19 % (9/47) of healthy siblings of clinically definite multiple sclerosis patients had an intrathecal immunological reaction to ¡Ý 2 CSF-enriched OCB, in contrast to 4% (2/50) of the unrelated healthy controls. We termed this condition ¡°MS immunopathic trait¡±. READ MORE

3. Adaptive evolution in multidimensional trait spaces
Abstract : Negative frequency-dependent disruptive selection, which arises due to the interplay between organisms of a population and their environment, is an important element driving phenotypic diversification and even speciation. Such selection regime can result from frequency- and density-dependent interactions between the organisms and their environment, so that the fitness landscape itself changes as the population evolves. 4. Evolution of Plants : a mathematical perspective
Abstract : The Earth harbors around 300 000 plant species. The rich and complex environment provided by plants is considered a key factor for the extraordinary diversity of the terrestrial fauna by, for example, providing food and shelter. READ MORE

5. Quantitative Trait Evolution in a Changing Environment in a Seed Beetle
Abstract : During the last decades the climate has been changing more rapidly than in the preceding periods. This is for instance characterized by an increase in temperature. Interestingly, such changes in the environment are not necessarily constant over time as they often show high levels of fluctuation. READ MORE
