  1. 1. Mechanisms of transendothelial and tissue transport in the peritoneum. Experimental studies on rat

    Author : Bert-Inge Rosengren; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nefrologi; Urologi; hyaluronan; interstitium; blood flow; rat; pore; inhibition; temperature; peritoneal dialysis; permeability; capillary; protein; passive; active; transport; transcytosis; vesicle; Urology; nephrology; small solute;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, the quantitative role of active transport (transcytosis) in bulk transvascular protein movement in vivo was evaluated. Using chemical transcytosis inhibition (N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) and filipin), we were able to show that NEM actually increases endothelial permeability to macromolecules, probably as a result of unspecific toxic action on endothelial cells. 2. 2. Epithelial barrier dysfunction in ileal Crohn's disease

    Author : Johan Dabrosin-Söderholm; Svante Nordgren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : acetylsalicylic add; confocal microscopy; Crohn s disease; cytoskeleton; electron microscopy; genetics; human; ileum; inflammatory bowel disease; intestinal absorption; intestinal mucosa; macromolecules; mitochondria; ovalbumin; permeability; sodium caprate; tight junctions; transcytosis; uncoupling agents; Ussing chamber; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The study aimed at investigating the intestinal barrier in Crohn's disease, with special reference to epithelial responses to luminal stimuli, and to permeation of proteins.Ileal mucosa from patients undergoing intestinal resection was studied in vitro in Ussing chambers. READ MORE

  3. 3. Effects of Microparticulate Drug Delivery Systems : Tissue Responses and Transcellular Transport

    Author : Eva Ragnarsson; Per Artursson; Lucia Lazorova; David Brayden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; microparticles; vaccine; pDNA vaccine; cationic polymer; gene expression analysis DNA array ; Caco-2; follicle-associated epithelium FAE ; M cell; transcytosis; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Abstract : Over the past decade, the development of macromolecular drugs based on peptides, proteins and nucleic acids has increased the interest in microparticulate drug delivery, i.e., the delivery of drug systems in the nanometer and micrometer ranges. READ MORE

  4. 4. Particle Transcytosis Across the Human Intestinal Epithelium : Model Development and Target Identification for Improved Drug Delivery

    Author : Elisabet Gullberg; Per Artursson; Barry Hirst; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; M-cell; FAE; Peyer´s patches; oral vaccination; uptake; endocytosis; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Abstract : The use of nano- and micro-particulate carriers as delivery systems for oral vaccines has been under investigation for several decades. Surprisingly little is known of their uptake in the human intestine, despite the fact that substantial improvement is required to achieve adequate immune responses in man after oral administration. Abstract : Neurodegenerative disorders include a full spectrum of diagnoses, including dementias and other neuronal diseases, characterised by degradation of neurons in the brain occurring along with disease progression. Amongst the dementias, the most prevalent are Alzheimer’s (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) that affect millions of people worldwide. READ MORE
