21. Geo-environmental considerations in transport infrastructure planning
Abstract : Transport infrastructure constitutes one of the key factors to a country’s economic growth. Investment in new transport infrastructure might cause potential environmental impacts, and if a project has several alternative corridors open for suggestion then each alternative corridor will have a different impact on the environment. 22. Sustainability Transitions in Established Industries : The case of European Commercial Transport Vehicles
Abstract : With the increasing trends in trade of goods and services as well as the expansion of road infrastructure and networks, commercial road transport has dominated a significant share of inland and urban logistics in the world and particularly in Europe. This includes not only the basic supply of citizens’ needs through long-haul traffic and short-distance city trucks but also by providing urban services such as courier delivery, household waste pickup and refuse collection as well as passengers movements by public bus transport and inter-city coach transit. 25. Quasi-analytical Modelling and Optimisation Techniques for Transport Aircraft Design
Abstract : The research work presented here focuses on the subject oftransport aircraft design at the pre-design or conceptuallevel. The primary topics addressed are: (1) generation of avast array of new quasi-analytical expressions to permit aconceptual treatment of commercial and business transportaircraft with adequate sensitivity for more advanced tradestudies; (2) review and adoption of a method to predictstability and control characteristics (using the Mitchellmethod); (3) a study of the relative merits between variousmethods in facilitating an expedient and robust constrainedmulti-objective optimisation result within the context oftraditional conceptual design problems (Genetic Algorithms andNelder-Mead Simplex search); (4) creation of a software packageas a new and unique conceptual tool that permits the generationof design proposals in an accurate yet expeditious manner; and,(5) practical demonstration of the new conceptual designsoftware package by undertaking some actual aircraft designproposals.
