  1. 1. Ultrasound measurement of cervical length in the second trimester of pregnancy for prediction of preterm delivery

    Author : Pihla Kuusela; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; preterm delivery; transvaginal ultrasound; cervical length measurement; second trimester; prospective study; observational study; mass screening; reproducibility of results; inter-observer variation; intra-observer variation; data accuracy; quality control;

    Abstract : Abstract Background: Short cervical length is a risk factor for preterm delivery (PTD) and screening of cervical length using transvaginal ultrasound in the second trimester is a proposed method to find women at risk Aims: To examine the potential value of routine measurement of cervical length in a Swedish population of women with singleton pregnancies in the prediction of PTD. To estimate inter- and intra-observer agreement and reliability of cervical length measurements. READ MORE

  2. 2. Three-dimensional ultrasound studies of normal and abnormal ovaries

    Author : Ligita Jokubkiene; gynekologisk och prenatal ultraljudsdiagnostik Obstetrisk; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ovary; ovarian follicle; ovarian neoplasms; ultrasonography; three-dimensional imaging; Doppler ultrasound imaging; vascular morphology;

    Abstract : The aims of this work were: 1) to estimate the number of follicles, ovarian volume and power Doppler vascular indices and their changes with age using three-dimensional (3D) transvaginal grey-scale and power Doppler ultrasound in asymptomatic women of fertile age either with natural menstrual cycles or using combined oral contraceptives, and 2) to determine whether tumour vascularity, assessed by 3D power Doppler ultrasound, can help discriminate between benign and malignant ovarian tumours. A group of 303 gynaecologically asymptomatic women, aged 20–39 years with normal menstrual cycles (NMC) and another group of 213 women aged 20–39 years using combined oral contraceptives (COC) were examined using two-dimensional (2D) and 3D transvaginal ultrasound once between cycle day 4 and 8. 3. 3. Ultrasound Studies of Caesarean Hysterotomy Scars

    Author : Olga Vikhareva; gynekologisk och prenatal ultraljudsdiagnostik Obstetrisk; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The aim of the work presented in this thesis was to investigate how transvaginal ultrasound examination of non-pregnant women could be used to visualize and assess caesarean hysterotomy scars, and to evaluate the risk of uterine rupture in subsequent pregnancies. The diagnostic value of transvaginal ultrasound for correct evaluation of caesarean hysterotomy scars was determined, and the prevalence of defective scars was estimated. READ MORE

  4. 4. ULTRASOUND STUDIES ON PELVIC FLOOR PHYSIOLOGY AND OBSTETRIC PERINEAL TEARS

    Author : Ann-Kristin Örnö; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; andrology; bladder neck descent; rectoanal inhibitory reflex; rectal sensation; Hirschsprung´s disease; Obstetrics; gynaecology; Valsalva manoeuvre; perineal tears; Pelvic floor; anal sphincter; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : Repair of obstetric perineal tears is one of the most frequent procedures in surgical practice. Despite repair such tears may result in anal and urinary incontinence and prolapses of the pelvic floor, problems in need of surgical repair later in life. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ultrasound and molecular biomarkers for prediction of preterm delivery in different risk groups of singleton pregnancies

    Author : Tove Wikström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cervical length measurement; preterm birth; ; second trimester; screening; cost-effectiveness analyzes; progesterone; human microbiome; ; transcriptome; gene expression profiles; microRNA;

    Abstract : Ultrasound and molecular biomarkers for prediction of preterm delivery in women with a singleton pregnancy Tove Wikström Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Institute of Clinical Sciences Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg Gothenburg, Sweden Background: Preterm delivery (PTD) is the leading cause of death in children under five years of age. Spontaneous PTD (sPTD) might be partly preventable by treating asymptomatic women having a short cervical length (CL) with vaginal progesterone. READ MORE
