  1. 1. Quadruped robot control and variable leg transmissions

    Author : Johan Ingvast; Jan Wikander; Harry Dankowicz; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; walking robot; quadruped; walking; crawl; trot; passively variable transmission; PVT; variable transmission; continuously variable transmission; velocity ratio; torque ratio; Other engineering mechanics; Övrig teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : The research presented in this thesis regards walking of quadruped robots, and particularly the walking of the Warp1 robot. The motivation for the robot is to provide a platform for autonomous walking in rough terrain. The thesis contains six papers ranging from development tools to actuation of robot legs. READ MORE

  2. 2. The movement pattern of horse and rider in different degrees of collection

    Author : Anna Byström; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : While some degree of collection is considered as basic schooling work for the riding horse, learning to perform the most collected movements, such as piaffe and passage, can be a performance limiting factor for dressage horses. The aim of this thesis was to study biomechanics of horse-rider interaction in varying degrees of collection. READ MORE

  3. 3. Evaluation of vertical movement asymmetries in riding horses: relevance to equine orthopaedics

    Author : Emma Persson-Sjödin; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Disorders of the locomotor apparatus are very common in sports horses. Pain and dysfunction associated with these conditions have a negative impact on horse welfare. The main component in lameness evaluation is detection of vertical movement asymmetries but the inter-rater agreement among veterinarians is low. READ MORE

  4. 4. Physiological response to exercise in the Icelandic horse

    Author : Gudrún Stefánsdóttir; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis examined the exercise physiology of the Icelandic horse by: 1) studying physiological response in stallions and mares of different ages performing a true breed evaluation field test (BEFT); 2) comparing the effect of ridden tölt and trot at three speeds on physiological response; 3) evaluating physiological response to a simulated 100 m flying pace race; 4) measuring the effect of increasing body weight ratio (BWR) of rider to horse (20, 25, 30, and 35 %) on physiological response in an standardised incremental field exercise test at tölt at 5.4 m/s; and 5) determining the effect of rider on physiological response. 5. 5. Straight from the horse’s mouth : What we can learn about rein tension by observing horse behaviour

    Author : Marie Eisersiö; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Horse-rider-interaction is largely dependent on rein tension signals which, through pressure and release, communicate with the horse about pace, direction of travel and appropriate head posture. However, the pressures applied on the horse’s mouth and/or head via the reins can cause pain and discomfort, leading to evasive behaviour and oral injuries. READ MORE
