  1. 1. Plasma membrane/cytoskeleton interactions in plants

    Author : Anders Sonesson; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Triton X-114; hydrophobic tubulin; tubulin; actin; cytoskeleton; Brij 58; inside-out; plasma membrane; plant; cauliflower; Physiological biophysics; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : The way in which the cortical cytoskeleton associates to the plasma membrane (PM) must be elucidated to understand the structural dynamics of many processes in the plant cell. In the present study, isolated cauliflower (Brassica oleracea L.) PM vesicles were used to characterize membrane/cytoskeleton interactions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Molecular dissection of established and proposed members of the Op18/Stathmin family of tubulin binding proteins

    Author : Kristoffer Brännström; Martin Gullberg; Fredrik Ivars; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Op18 Stathmin; Sm16; tubulin; microtubule; schistosoma mansoni; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : My initial aim was a functional analysis of the conserved Op18/stathmin family of microtubule-regulators, which includes the ubiquitous cytosolic Op18 protein and the neural membrane-attached RB3 and SCG10 proteins. The solved X-ray structure has shown that these proteins form a complex with tubulin -heterodimers via two imperfect helical repeats, which result in two head-to-tail aligned heterodimers in a tandem-tubulin complex. 3. 3. The gamma-tubulin meshwork as a therapeutic target

    Author : Lisa Lindström; Malmö Molekylär patologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gamma-tubulin; retinoblastoma; nuclear formation; meshwork; mitochondria; homeostasis;

    Abstract : Cancer is a heterogeneous disease and treatment regime is dependent on type and location of the tumor. Several of the commonly used chemotherapeutics target the functions of the microtubules. One of the major problems with these drugs is the adverse effects associated with their use. READ MORE

  4. 4. Design and Synthesis of Chalcone and Chromone Derivatives as Novel Anticancer Agents

    Author : Christine Dyrager; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chalcones; Chromones; Fluorescence; Fluorophore; Cellular imaging; Anticancer; Tubulin; Microtubule; Kinase inhibitors; p38; MEK1; Palladium-mediated reactions; Molecular modeling; Structure-Activity Relationships.;

    Abstract : This thesis comprises the design and synthesis of chalcone and chromone derivatives and their use in various biological applications, particularly as anticancer agents (targeting proteins associated with cancer pathogenesis) and as potential fluorophores for live-cell imaging. Conveniently, all structures presented were synthesized from commercially available 2 ́-hydroxyacetophenones. READ MORE

  5. 5. The surface complex of Euglena gracilis. Involvement in cellular movements and biochemical and molecular analyses of the components

    Author : Silja K Petersen-Mahrt; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; UV-B radiation; tubulin; surface complex; plasma membrane; phylogeny; phototaxis; nitrogen deficiency; membrane skeleton; Euglena gracilis; actin; cell shape; Physiological biophysics; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : The flagellate Euglena gracilis shows rhythms in phototaxis and cell shape changes between oblong and round. Artificial UV-B radiation of 0.5 W m-2 caused a loss in phototaxis, but the peak of activity occurred at the same time as for control cells. READ MORE
