  1. 1. Turbulence-droplet interaction modelled by One-Dimensional-Turbulence

    Author : Marco Fistler; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; One-Dimensional-Turbulence ODT ; Multiphase Flow; Turbulence; Droplets;

    Abstract : A stochastic model to study droplet/particle influence on the gas phase using the One-Dimensional-Turbulence model (ODT) is evaluated. To address one of the major problems for multiphase flow simulations, namely computational costs, the dimension-reduced model is used with the goal of predicting certain classes of these flows more efficiently. 2. 2. Experimental studies in jet flows and zero pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layers

    Author : Ramis Örlü; P. Henrik Alfredsson; Tim B. Nickels; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Axisymmetric jet; swirling jet; coaxial jet; heated jet; zero pressuregradient turbulent boundary layer; wall-bounded turbulent flows; overlap region; passive scalar mixing; hot-wire anemometry; spatial resolution.; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the description and development of two classical turbulent shear flows, namely free jet and flat plate turbulent boundary layer flows. In both cases new experimental data has been obtained and in the latter case comparisons are also made with data obtained from data bases, both of experimental and numerical origin. READ MORE

  3. 3. Turbulence modulation effects caused by small droplets using one-dimensional-turbulence

    Author : Marco Fistler; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Multiphase Flow; Droplets; one-dimensional-turbulence ODT ; Turbulence;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a stochastic model to study turbulence modulation effects on gas phases caused by small droplets or more generally speaking particles to achieve a better understanding about the physics and with the aim to provide data for a subgrid-scale (SGS) model for Large-eddy-simulations. The one-dimensional-turbulence (ODT) model addresses one of the major issues for multiphase flow simulations, namely computational costs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Numerical studies of turbulent flames in wall-jet flows

    Author : Zeinab Pouransari; Arne V. Johansson; Yves D'Angelo; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Turbulence; combustion; direct numerical simulation; wall-jet; heat release effects; mixing scales; non-premixed flame; wall heat transfer; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : The present thesis deals with the fundamental aspects of turbulent mixing and non-premixed combustion in the wall-jet flow, which has a close resemblance to many industrial applications. Direct numerical simulations (DNS) of turbulent wall-jets with isothermal and exothermic reactions are performed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Experimental study of passive scalar mixing in swirling jet flows

    Author : Ramis Örlü; Henrik Alfredsson; Peter Johansson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fluid mechanics; swirling jet; turbulence; passive scalar; mixing; hot-wire anemometry; cold-wire; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : Despite its importance in various industrial applications there is still a lack of experimental studies on the dynamic and thermal field of swirling jets in the near-field region. The present study is an attempt to close this lack and provide new insights on the effect of rotation on the turbulent mixing of a passive scalar, on turbulence (joint) statistics as well as the turbulence structure.
