  1. 1. A numerical study of two-fluid models for dispersed two-phase flow

    Author : Reynir Levi Gudmundsson; Björn Sjögreen; Anders Petersson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Numerical analysis; two-phase flow; two-fluid mode; well-posedness; numerical experiments; Numerisk analys; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : In this thesis the two-fluid (Eulerian/Eulerian) formulation for dispersed two-phase flow is considered. Closure laws are needed for this type of models. We investigate both empirically based relations, which we refer to as a nongranular model, and relations obtained from kinetic theory of dense gases, which we refer to as a granular model. READ MORE

  2. 2. Nonlinear gyrokinetics and microinstabilities in fluid and kinetic descriptions

    Author : Martin Liljeström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; two fluid model; kinetic model; drift modes; Gyrokinetics; velocity diffusion coefficient; nonlinear mode coupling; fishbone instability; particle and energy transport;

  3. 3. Drift ballooning and ITG instabilities in tokamak plasmas

    Author : Bhanpersad Jhowry; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ballooning mode; torus; FLR effects; toroidal instabilities; reverse shear; elongation; ITG-mode;

    Abstract : A major aim in fusion research is to understand, predict and control confined plasma instability in terms of equilibrium, stability and transport. Substantial progress has been made in recent years in understanding stability and transport in terms of MHD instability and drift wave instabilities. READ MORE

  4. 4. Influence of Geometry on Drift Waves in Tokamaks and Stellarators

    Author : Tariq Rafiq; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ITG; local magnetic shear; linear instabilities; drift waves;

    Abstract : There is a general consensus that drift waves are responsible for a large amount of transport in fusion experiments and it is of importance to investigate their linear stability and nonlinear evolution. These instabilities have therefore been intensively investigated in tokamaks for the last few decades. READ MORE

  5. 5. Numerical stability studies of one-phase and immiscible two-phase jets and wakes

    Author : Outi Tammisola; Daniel Söderberg; Fredrik Lundell; Rama Govindarajan; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : The initial linear instability growth of two-dimensional plane wakes and jetsis investigated, by temporal two-dimensional global modes, and local spatialstability analysis. Comparisons are also made to experiments, direct numericalsimulations, and methods designed for weakly-non-parallel flows. READ MORE
