  1. 1. Translational regulation of genes in salmonella typhimurium by vitamin B12

    Author : Solveig Ravnum; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Transational Control; Salmonella typhimurium; Vitamin B12; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : In this thesis I have studied the mechanism by which vitamin B12 regulates the expression of the cob operon and the btuB gene in Salmonella typhimurium. The cob operon encodes most of the 25 genes required for the de novo synthesis of vitamin B12, and the butB gene encodes the outer membrane protein needed for transport of exogenous vitamin B12 into the cell. 3. 3. Characterization of c-di-GMP signaling in Salmonella typhimurium

    Author : Roger Simm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Signal transduction via cyclic nucleotides is a general mechanism utilized by cells from all kingdoms of life. Identification of cyclic diguanosine monophosphate (c-di-GMP) as an allosteric activator of the cellulose synthase in Gluconacetobacter xylinus 20 years ago, paved the way for the discovery of a novel general signalling system which is unique to bacteria. 5. 5. Chemical genetics and immunomodulation in Salmonella enterica serovar typhimurium infection

    Author : Speranta Banesaru; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Salmonella sp. are versatile bacteria that survive and replicate in a plethora of environmental niches and hosts, including humans. The illnesses caused by various serovars in humans range from mild gastroenteritis to severe systemic disease such as typhoid fever that still cause an important number of casualties especially in developing countries.
