    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancer; gastrointestinal; hermeneutic; interpretation; quality of life; life-understanding; nutrition; recovery; suffering; surgery;

    Abstract : Bakgrund: Tidigare forskning som rör cancersjukdomar i matstrupe, magsäck och bukspottkörtel har beskrivits utifrån olika perspektiv såsom symtombild behandlingsmöjligheter, operationsteknik och komplikationer och har i de flesta fall ett medicinskt perspektiv. Vilken omvårdnad som behövs i samband med det kirurgiska ingreppet och hur patienterna återhämtat sig, har inte i någon större utsträckning varit föremål för studier. READ MORE

  2. 2. Clinical and Experimental Studies in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia : Studies of Treatment Outcome, In Vitro Cellular Drug Resistance and Gene Expression

    Author : Ulla Olsson-Strömberg; Bengt Simonsson; Elin Lindhagen; Gisela Barbany; Johan Richter; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medicine; chronic myeloid leukemia; adult; stem cell transplantation; mobilization of Ph-negative stem cells; in vitro assay; imatinib; gene expression; Medicin;

    Abstract : The aims of the studies described in the thesis were to investigate different treatment strategies in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients. Furthermore, activity of imatinib was investigated by in vitro cytotoxicity assay, and the gene expression pattern in interferon treated patients. READ MORE

  3. 3. A moral endeavour in a demoralizing context: Psychiatric inpatient care from the perspective of professional caregivers

  4. 4. Myeloid-Derived Suppressor Cells and Other Immune Escape Mechanisms in Chronic Leukemia

    Author : Lisa Christiansson; Angelica S I Loskog; Ulla Olsson-Strömberg; Andreas Lundqvist; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is characterized by the Philadelphia chromosome, a minute chromosome that leads to the creation of the fusion gene BCR/ABL and the transcription of the fusion protein BCR/ABL in transformed cells. The constitutively active tyrosine kinase BCR/ABL confers enhanced proliferation and survival on leukemic cells. READ MORE

  5. 5. Clinical and Genetic studies in Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia

    Author : Hjalmar Flygt; Ulla Olsson Strömberg; Stina Söderlund; Lucia Cavelier; Jane Apperley; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : This thesis explores strategies to enhance deep molecular response (DMR) rates and treatment-free remission (TFR) eligibility in chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), investigates factors linked to treatment milestone failures, describes tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) discontinuation outcomes in a population-based cohort, and examines TFR probabilities after a second TKI discontinuation. In paper I we examined data from the Swedish CML registry on 128 CML patients in chronic phase with a reported TKI discontinuation of ≥1 month due to DMR. READ MORE
