  1. 1. Phylogeny and Taxonomy of Childia (Acoela) : New characters for unraveling acoel phylogenies from molecules, ultrastructure, immunocytochemistry and confocal microscopy

    Author : Yonas Isaak Tekle; Ulf Jondelius; Mikael Thollesson; Isabel Sanmartin; Kennet Lundin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Childiidae; Childia; Paraphanostoma; Acoela; phylogeny; taxonomy; morphology; 18S rRNA; 28S rRNA; Histone H3; ultrastructure; confocal; phalloidin; immunocytochemistry; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a comprehensive phylogenetic and taxonomic study of an acoel subgroup, the Childiidae. Members of this taxon are characterized by well-developed male copulatory organs with conical/cylindrical stylets. READ MORE

  2. 2. Significance of mitochondrial ultrastructure for bioenergetics

    Author : Alexandra Toth; Martin Ott; Vladimir Gogvadze; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bioenergetics; mitochondrial ultrastructure; respiratory chain; Saccharomyces cereviciae; ATP synthase; apoptosis; cytochrome c; supercomplexes; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Mitochondria are the site where most of the energy from food is converted into adenosine triphosphate (ATP). This process is taking place at the inner membrane (IM) of mitochondria, and is called oxidative phosphorylation, and results in the establishment of a proton motive force (pmf). READ MORE

  3. 3. Hygroelastic behaviour of wood-fibre based materials on the composite, fibre and ultrastructural level

    Author : Razvan Cristian Neagu; Kristofer Gamstedt; Staffan Toll; KTH; []
    Keywords : wood fibres; ultrastructure; structure-property relations; microfibril angle; composites; characterization methods; hygroelastic properties; micromechanics; modelling; reinforcement potential; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Wood fibres can be used as reinforcement in plastics for load carrying purposes. Some advantages compared with conventional man-made fibres are that wood fibres come from a renewable resource, have high specific stiffness and strength, are generally less hazardous to health, biodegradable, and can be manufactured at low cost and high volumes. 4. 4. Pollen and pollination in Ephedra (Gnetales)

    Author : Kristina Bolinder; Catarina Rydin; Johan Ehrlén; Michael S Zavada; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aerodynamics; evolution; moonlight; pollination; pollen morphology; ultrastructure; växtsystematik; Plant Systematics;

    Abstract : Ephedra (Gnetales) is a gymnosperm genus with a long evolutionary history; the first dispersed pollen grains with affinity to the group are known already from the Permian. This thesis focuses on the evolutionary history of the group and different aspects of its pollination mechanisms. READ MORE

  5. 5. The clinical, radiographic, histological and ultrastructural results after Anterior Cruciate Ligament reconstruction using autografts

    Author : Michael Svensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : anterior cruciate ligament; surgery; histology; biopsy; ultrastructure; radiology;

    Abstract : The clinical, radiographic, histological and ultrastructural results after Anterior Cruciate Ligament reconstruction using autografts Michael Svensson Department of Orthopaedics, Institute of Clinical Sciences, The Sahlgrenska Academy at G?teborg University, G?teborg, Sweden The principal aims of the study were to perform a long-term analysis of the patellar tendon structure after harvesting its central third as an autograft during ACL reconstruction. The patellar tendon underwent long-term serial morphological evaluations using MRI, histological evaluations at two and six years and ultrastructural evaluation six years after the harvesting procedure.
