  1. 1. Ultrasound as predictor of perinatal outcome

    Author : Gisela Ghosh; gynekologisk och prenatal ultraljudsdiagnostik Obstetrisk; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Doppler; Ultrasound; fetus; amniotic fluid index; nuchal cord; uterine artery; umbilical vein; fetal growth restriction; umbilical artery; pulsation; pregnancy;

    Abstract : The aim of the work described in this thesis was to evaluate the value of ultrasound examinations of the amniotic fluid, umbilical cord and blood flow velocity waveform of the fetal and placental vessels as predictors of the perinatal outcome. In the first study, the amniotic fluid index (AFI) measured on admission to the labour ward was evaluated in low-risk pregnancies. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fetal Cardiac Function and Venous Circulation - Experiences with Velocity Vector Imaging

    Author : Charlotte Dahlbäck; Urogynekologi och reproduktionsfarmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pregnancy; fetus; strain; speckle tracking; cardiac function; umbilical vein; venous; ductus venosus; Doppler;

    Abstract : Placental dysfunction resulting in intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is a common complication of pregnany and severe IUGR, with ensuing fetal hypoxia is an important cause of perinatal mortality and morbidity. Doppler studies of fetal and maternal vessels are routinely used for fetal surveillance and alterations in fetal venous blood flow has been demonstrated as a late sign of fetal compromise. READ MORE

  3. 3. Role of cerebral Blood Flow in Fetal Surveillance

    Author : Riffat Cheema; Urogynekologi och reproduktionsfarmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : ABSTRACT In high-risk pregnancies the chronic hypoxemic fetus redistributes its circulation to maintain the blood supply to the vital organs: brain, heart and adrenals. The aims of the studies included in this thesis were: 1) to establish reference curves for fetal cerebral venous blood velocity in normal pregnancies; 2) to determine in high-risk pregnancies the frequency of abnormal Doppler in the cerebral veins and uterine, umbilical and middle cerebral arteries and the umbilical vein and ductus venosus with correlation with adverse perinatal outcome; 3) to analyze the correlation between brain sparing and redistribution of circulation and placental vascular impedance; 4) to evaluate the correlation between brain sparing and fetal umbilical cord blood gases at birth. 4. 4. Endothelin and endothelin receptors in human pregnancy and delivery

    Author : Kerstin Wolff; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Endothelin; endothelin receptor; human; pregnancy; preeclampsia; delivery;

    Abstract : Background: Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is a 21-amino acid peptide, first described by Yanagisawa et al in 1988. It is one of the most potent constrictors of smooth muscle cells identified to date. READ MORE

  5. 5. Metabolism-dependent activation of food and environmental mutagens in endothelial cells

    Author : Anita Annas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Toxicology; toxikologi;

    Abstract : The endothelial cells of blood vessels have been proposed as a target for toxic effects ofxenobiotics in the cardiovascular system. In the present studies, induction of cytochromeP450 1A (CYP1A) enzymes and metabolic activation of food and environmentalmutagens were examined in endothelial cells of rodents, birds, and humans.
