1. Laser-Driven Plasma Waves for Particle Acceleration and X-ray Production
Abstract : This thesis presents experimental results related to laser plasma accelerators. These rely on very different principles from conventional particle accelerators. READ MORE

2. Timing Diagnostics and Coherent Harmonics from a test-FEL
Abstract : The test free-electron laser (test-FEL) at MAX-lab in Lund demonstrated for the first time circularly polarized coherent femtosecond pulses at 66 nm wavelength. A 375 MeV electron bunch was seeded by a femtosecond laser at 263 nm and coherent harmonics were extracted in an APPLE-II type elliptical undulator. READ MORE

3. Efficiency Enhancement Techniques for Free-Electron Lasers
Abstract : The central question addressed in this thesis is how to make the free-electron laser (FEL) more efficient. In recent years, coherent diffraction imaging provides an important motivation for efficiency enhancement. This is because a more efficient FEL process enables converting a larger fraction of the electron beam's power into optical power. READ MORE

4. Studies on high brightness electron beams for short pulses and free electron laser
Abstract : Accelerator based lightsources are one of the most powerful tools today for producing high intensity radiation at very short wavelengths. While synchrotron storage rings provide a high average brilliance in a wide wavelength range, the next generation of lightsources aim towards producing ultra-short pulses in the X-ray regime. 5. Towards ultrafast imaging with extreme ultraviolet light sources
Abstract : This thesis reports experimental studies performed with two advanced coherent XUV sources with ultrashort pulse duration, high-order harmonic generation and seeded-free electron laser. High-order harmonic generation (HHG) is the generation of overtones of a fundamental laser pulse in a medium, e.g. noble gases. READ MORE
