  1. 1. Drug Transport and Metabolism in Rat and Human Intestine

    Author : Sofia Berggren; Hans Lennernäs; Janet Hoogstraate; Patrick Augustijns; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biopharmacy; Ussing chamber; microsome; single-pass perfusion; human; rat; intestine; permeability; efflux; P-glycoprotein; metabolism; cytochrome P450; ropivacaine; lidocaine; bupivacaine; Biofarmaci; PPX;

    Abstract : One of the aims of this thesis was to investigate the involvement of efflux proteins, such as the P-glycoprotein (Pgp), in the drug transport in different regions of the rat and the human intestine. The intestinal extrusion of intracellularly formed CYP3A4 metabolites, including whether this extrusion might be mediated by Pgp, was also studied. READ MORE

  2. 2. Epithelial barrier dysfunction in ileal Crohn's disease

    Author : Johan Dabrosin-Söderholm; Svante Nordgren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : acetylsalicylic add; confocal microscopy; Crohn s disease; cytoskeleton; electron microscopy; genetics; human; ileum; inflammatory bowel disease; intestinal absorption; intestinal mucosa; macromolecules; mitochondria; ovalbumin; permeability; sodium caprate; tight junctions; transcytosis; uncoupling agents; Ussing chamber; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The study aimed at investigating the intestinal barrier in Crohn's disease, with special reference to epithelial responses to luminal stimuli, and to permeation of proteins.Ileal mucosa from patients undergoing intestinal resection was studied in vitro in Ussing chambers. READ MORE

  3. 3. Non-digestible Polysaccharides and Intestinal Barrier Function : specific focus on its efficacy in elderly and patients with Crohn’s disease

    Author : John-Peter Ganda Mall; Robert Jan Brummer; Ida Schoultz; Åsa Keita; Mikael Wirén; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Non-digestible polysachharides; beta-glucan; arabinoxylan; barrier function; permeability; Ussing chamber; elderly; Crohn’s disease;

    Abstract : A large number of elderly suffer from gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms such as constipation and diarrhoea. The underlying mechanisms of age-acquired GI symptoms are not well studied but are necessary to clarify in order to recommend the right treatment. READ MORE

  4. 4. SODIUM/IODIDE SYMPORTER-NIS Abundant and Important in Gastric Mucosa

    Author : Malin Josefsson; Neurogastroenterologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ussing chamber; MNNG; gastric iodide secretion; ouabain; gastric cancer; sodium perchlorate; gastric NIS; bile duct cancer; Sodium iodide symporter;

    Abstract : ABSTRACT Background: Iodine is essential for development and growth as a constituent in thyroid hormones. Biological mechanisms for iodide uptake and concentration are very important, espe-cially as iodine is a relatively scarce element. READ MORE

  5. 5. Gastroduodenal epithelial transport in patients with cystic fibrosis

    Author : Karin Edshage Hallberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cystic fibrosis; CFTR; intestinal motility; gastric secretion; IgA; Ussing chamber; intestinal permeability; genotype;

    Abstract : Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited disease where respiratory failure due to chronic lung infection is the major cause of death. A defective protein, cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) alters chloride epithelial transport. READ MORE
