  1. 1. Direct Thrombin Inhibitors in Treatment and Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism: Dose – Concentration – Response Relationships

    Author : Marie Cullberg; Mats O. Karlsson; Ulf G. Eriksson; Nick H.G. Holford; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pharmaceutical biosciences; Ximelagatran; pharmacokinetic; pharmacodynamic; activated partial thromboplastin time; utility function; dosing strategy; venous thromboembolism; NONMEM; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap;

    Abstract : For prevention and treatment of thrombotic diseases with an anticoagulant drug it is important that an adequate dose is given to avoid occurrence or recurrence of thrombosis, without increasing the risk of bleeding and other adverse events to unacceptable levels. The aim of this thesis was to develop mathematical models that describe the dose-concentration (pharmacokinetic) and concentration-response (pharmacodynamic) relationships of direct thrombin inhibitors, in order to estimate optimal dosages for treatment and long-term secondary prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE). 2. 2. Water Resources Management efforts for best water allocation in the Lake Poopo basin, Bolivia

    Author : Andres Calizaya; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : poverty; institutional arrangements; Bolivian Altiplano; Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis; Water conflict; Lake Poopo; IWRM strategy; local capacity building.;

    Abstract : The Lake Poopo basin, located on the Bolivian Altiplano, is extremely vulnerable to environmental degradation. The basin displays extreme spatial and temporal variations of water resources and rapidly decreasing water quality due to anthropogenic and natural pollution. READ MORE

  3. 3. Estimation of Dosing Strategies for Individualisation

    Author : Siv Jönsson; Mats O. Karlsson; Leon Aarons; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Dosing strategy; Individualisation; Pharmacokinetic; Pharmacodynamic; Modeling; NONMEM; Decision making; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci;

    Abstract : To increase the proportion of patients with successful drug treatment, dose individualisation on the basis of one or several patient characteristics, a priori individualisation, and/or on the basis of feedback observations from the patient following an initial dose, a posteriori individualisation, is an option. Efficient tools in optimising individualised dosing strategies are population models describing pharmacokinetics (PK) and the relation between pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD). 4. 4. Utility of novel drug targets for treatment of metastatic cancer

    Author : Tianyan Wang; Jenny Persson; Thomas Grundström; Maréne Landström; Margareta Wilhelm; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Metastatic cancer; castration-resistant prostate cancer; pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma; target therapy; PIP5K1α; KRAS; molecularly imprinted polymers; Oncology; onkologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Metastasis is the leading cause of cancer death because of a lack of early diagnosis tools and efficient treatment drugs. The lipid kinase phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate 5 kinase (PIP5K1α) has been shown to play a vital role in the PI3K/AKT and KRAS signaling pathways. READ MORE

  5. 5. District Cooling – Towards Improved Substation Performance

    Author : Maria Jangsten; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; control strategy; heat exchanger; district cooling; HVAC; operational data; energy transfer station; substation; low delta-T; high temperature district cooling;

    Abstract : The global cooling demand in buildings is rapidly increasing and to supply this demand, district cooling is one solution. However, many district cooling systems suffer from low delta-Ts (receiving low return temperatures from the buildings connected to the system). READ MORE
