  1. 1. The effects of long chain alcohol blends on engine performance and spray characteristics in CI engines

    Author : Josefine Preuss; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; spray characteristics; RME; drop-in bränslen; long chain alcohols; CI engine; HVO;

    Abstract : Replacing fossil fuels with alternatives derived from renewable sources is one way of meeting society’s increasing need for mobility while also significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles with internal combustion engines. To facilitate such a replacement, this thesis presents optical spray studies and engine experiments conducted to evaluate the potential of blends of biomass-derived alcohols and vegetable oils to serve as drop-in fuels for compression ignition engines. 2. 2. Towards sustainable heavy-duty transportation : Combustion and emissions using renewable fuels in a compression ignition engine

    Author : Maja Novakovic; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; RME; HVO; E85; methanol; ethanol; decarbonization; defossilization; heavy-duty; compression-ignition engine; ow temperature combustion; PPC; emissions; PM; particles; aerosol; OA; SOA; DOC;

    Abstract : Transportation should become sustainable and available to everyone. Currently, transportation accounts for approx. one sixth of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions globally, and heavy-duty trucks are responsible for almost 30% of that. READ MORE

  3. 3. Characteristics of Particulate Emissions from Low Temperature Combustion and Renewable Fuels : Aerosol Mass Spectrometry of Refractory Carbonaceous Particles

    Author : Vilhelm Malmborg; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Emissions; Soot; BC; BrC; ROS; SP-AMS; MiniCAST; Diesel Engine; HVO; RME; Cook Stove; Emissions; Soot; BC; BrC; SP-AMS; ROS; MiniCAST; Diesel Engine; HVO; RME; Cook Stove;

    Abstract : Particulate air pollution is one of the major causes of premature death in the world, and combustion-derived soot emissions contribute strongly to the particulate pollution to which humans are exposed. Black carbon (BC) is one such emission and denotes soot with strong light absorption in the ultraviolet to infrared spectrum. READ MORE

  4. 4. Experimental evaluation of renewable drop-in fuel blends for compression ignition engines

    Author : Josefine Preuss; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Compression Ignition Engine; Renewable fuels; Particle emissions; long-chain alcohol blends;

    Abstract : Driven by the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while meeting the growing demand for mobility, the transport sector is shifting towards more sustainable and less polluting energy sources. Although vehicle electrification is advancing, it will take decades for electric vehicles to completely replace all current vehicles powered by internal combustion engines. READ MORE

  5. 5. Experimental Study of Using Butanol or Octanol Blends as Alternative Fuels in Diesel Engines

    Author : Tankai Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : With the increased travel demand, the consumption of fossil fuels, as the main energy source for transportation, has risen sharply over the last few decades. Fossil fuels are considered a non-renewable resource. In addition, burning them in internal combustion engines can generate a large amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. READ MORE
