  1. 1. On Derailment-Worthiness in Rail Vehicle Design : Analysis of vehicle features influencing derailment processes and consequences

    Author : Dan Brabie; Evert Andersson; Roderick A Smith; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; derailment; bogie design; wheel-sleeper impact; simulation; deviation; vehicle inter-connection; guidance mechanism; substitute guidance; articulated train; railway safety; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis aims at systematically studying the possibilities of minimizing devastating consequences of high-speed rail vehicle derailments by appropriate measures and features in the train design including the running gear. Firstly, an empirical database is established containing as much relevant information as possible of past incidents and accidents that have occurred at substantial running speeds due to mechanical failure close to the interface between the running gear and the track. 2. 2. Distributed vehicle testing : dynamic simulation for automotive winter testing

    Author : Mikael Nybacka; Luleå University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Today, rather than provide parts similar to their competitors and rely on one or two automakers, successful automotive component suppliers focus heavily on innovation and collaboration with several manufacturers in a global market. In this thesis, an as-is scenario for automotive winter testing is presented. READ MORE

  3. 3. On the Influence of Rail Vehicle Parameters on the Derailment Process and its Consequences

    Author : Dan Brabie; Evert Andersson; Johan Oscarsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; train; railway; rail vehicle; accident; incident; derailment; bogie design; simulation; wheel; sleeper; impact; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis aims at systematically studying the possibilities of minimising devastatingconsequences of high-speed derailments by appropriate measures and features in thetrain design, including the running gear. The course of events immediately afterderailments is studied with respect to whether the train stays upright and close to thetrack centre line or deviates laterally with probably serious consequences. 4. 4. Suspension design for off-road construction machines

    Author : Adam Rehnberg; Lars Drugge; Annika Stensson Trigell; David Crolla; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; construction machine; engineering vehicle; earth mover; wheel loader; vehicle dynamics; vehicle engineering; whole body vibrations; off-road vehicle; anläggningsmaskin; entreprenadmaskin; hjullastare; fordonsdynamik; fordonsteknik; helkroppsvibrationer; terrängfordon; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : Construction machines, also referred to as engineering vehicles or earth movers, are used in a variety of tasks related to infrastructure development and material handling. While modern construction machines represent a high level of sophistication in several areas, their suspension systems are generally rudimentary or even nonexistent. READ MORE

    Abstract : Several aspects make today’s transport system non-sustainable: • Production, transport and combustion of fossil fuels lead to global and local environmental problems. • Oil dependency in the transport sector may lead to economical and political instability. READ MORE
