  1. 1. Investigation of Aerodynamic Resistance of Rotating Wheels on Passenger Cars

    Author : Alexey Vdovin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wheel forces; ventilation resistance; rim design; aerodynamic moment; wheel aerodynamics;

    Abstract : With the current conditions of rising fuel prices and the toughening of environmental legislation for CO2 and other emission gases, vehicle manufacturers around the world are looking into the ways to make their vehicles more energy efficient and therefore more environmentally friendly. One of the ways to achieve this goal is to improve aerodynamic design of vehicles in order to decrease aerodynamic resistance forces. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Immune Response to One-Lung Ventilation : Clinical and Experimental Studies

    Author : Thomas Schilling; Göran Hedenstierna; Hans Hedenström; Thomas Hachenberg; Sven-Erik Ricksten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; One-lung ventilation; open thoracic surgery; ventilation-induced lung injury; alveolar immune response; bronchoalveolar lavage; propofol; desflurane; cytokines; animal model; mRNA; RT-PCR; Medical laboratory science; Medicinsk laboratorievetenskap; anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Abstract : One-lung ventilation (OLV) as an established procedure during thoracic surgery may be injurious in terms of increased mechanical stress characterised by alveolar cell stretch and overdistension, increased cyclic tidal recruitment of alveolar units, compression of alveolar vessels and increased pulmonary vascular resistance. This may result in ventilation-induced lung injury with pro-inflammatory cytokine production, leukocyte recruitment and neutrophil-dependent tissue destruction. READ MORE

  3. 3. Aspects of lung mechanics during mechanical ventilation

    Author : Magni Gudmundsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute respiratory failure; Acute respiratory distress syndrome; Mechanical ventilation; Transpulmonary pressure; Expiratory time constant; Esophageal pressure;

    Abstract : Background: One of the most common diagnoses in the intensive care unit is acute respiratory failure. In its most severe form it is called acute respiratory distress syndrome and often requires mechanical ventilation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Numerical and Experimental Investigations on Aerodynamic and Thermal Aspects of Rotating Wheels

    Author : Alexey Vdovin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ventilation resistance; wind tunnel; brake cooling; ride height; aerodynamic moment; CFD; rim design; vehicle aerodynamics;

    Abstract : With todays and future environmental legislations for CO2 and other emission gases, all vehicle manufacturers are forced to further develop tools and methods to make their vehicles more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. One option to achieve this is to reduce the aerodynamic resistance since it has a significant influence on the vehicle fuel consumption, especially for velocities higher than 50 km/h. READ MORE

  5. 5. Investigations of Flow Patterns in Ventilated Rooms Using Particle Image Velocimetry : Applications in a Scaled Room with Rapidly Varying Inflow and over a Wall-Mounted Radiator

    Abstract : This thesis introduces and describes a new experimental setup for examining the effects of pulsating inflow to a ventilated enclosure. The study aimed to test the hypothesis that a pulsating inflow has potential to improve ventilation quality by reducing the stagnation zones through enhanced mixing. READ MORE
