  1. 1. Fluid and Solid Particle Dynamics in Stirred Vessels

    Author : Mattias Ljungqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mixing time; pitched blade turbine; impeller modelling; stirred vessels; computational fluid dynamics; multi-fluid model; suspension of solids; phase-Doppler anemometry; laser Doppler anemometry; closed vessels;

    Abstract : The present thesis deals with the fluid dynamics of stirred vessels and particularly those that are to be used in conjunction with solids suspensions. Stirred vessels are very common in the process industry and large amounts of energy can be saved by optimising their operation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Ritualization - Hybridization - Fragmentation : The Mutability of Roman Vessels in Germania Magna AD 1–400

    Author : Fredrik Ekengren; Institutionen för arkeologi och antikens historia; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; ritual destruction; obolus; imports; Roman Iron Age; Roman vessels; Germania Magna; transformation; appropriation; practice theory; ritual practice; princely graves; fürstengräber; identity construction; silver vessels; Germanic pottery; hybridity; Roman glass; Charon s coin; fragmentation; enchainment;

    Abstract : This PhD thesis deals with the transformation of imported vessels of Roman origin in Germania Magna during the Roman Iron Age, 1-400 AD. The concept of transformation in this context refers to the various ways these objects were interpreted, physically altered and consequently changed with regard to their function and meaning. 3. 3. ENDOTHELIAL- EPITHELIAL INTERACTIONS Blood vessels friends or foes?

    Author : Fredrik Wolfhagen Sand; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; blood vessels; pancreas; endoderm development; S1P1; N-CAM; diabetic retinopathy; diabetes; tubulogenesis; Cdc42;

    Abstract : Diabetes affects enormous amounts of patients. In type 1 diabetes the insulin producing β cells in the islet of Langerhans are destroyed by the immune system. The β cells, which are located in the pancreas, regulate blood glucose levels. The lack of insulin production requires administration of insulin. READ MORE

  4. 4. Energy Performance and Manoeuvring Modelling of Inland Waterway Vessels

    Author : Chengqian Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; confinement effect; inland waterways; manoeuvring prediction; autonomous vessels; ship hydrodynamics; energy efficiency;

    Abstract : Inland waterway transport has significant potential to reduce greenhouse emissions and road congestion safely and sustainably. To construct competitive, intelligent waterborne transport networks, the use of advanced vessels with clean energy and a high degree of automation or autonomy is an ideal solution for next-generation transport. 5. 5. Tissue engineering in blood vessels

    Author : Gisela Helenius; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : tissue engineering; vascular graft; endothelial cells; smooth muscle cells; thrombogenicity; mechanical properties; scaffold; bacterial cellulose;

    Abstract : Severely occluded coronary- and peripheral arteries, caused by atherosclerotic plaques, are treated with bypass surgery. Autologous veins are the most commonly used replacement graft. Among the patients that need a vascular bypass, 5-10% lack appropriate replacement veins due to previous surgery of bad quality of the vessels. READ MORE
