  1. 1. Phase Separation in Stainless Steels Studied by Small-angle Neutron Scattering

    Author : Xin Xu; Peter Hedström; Joakim Odqvist; John Ågren; Cristelle Pareige; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fe-Cr alloys; stainless steels; spinodal decomposition; phase separation; small-angle neutron scattering; mechanical properties; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : Fe-Cr based steels, i.e. stainless steels, possessing a combination of excellent corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties, have indispensable applications ranging from low-end cooking utensils, to sophisticated components for nuclear power plants. READ MORE

  2. 2. Go with the flow : visually mediated flight control in bumblebees

    Author : Nellie Linander; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : insect; vision; Bombus terrestris; flight control; optic flow; centring; flight speed; height; viewing angle; learning flight; Insect; vision; Bombus terrestris; flight control; optic flow; centring; flight speed; height; viewing angle; learning flight;

    Abstract : Despite their small brains and tiny eyes, flying insects are capable of detecting and avoiding collisions with moving obstacles, and with remarkable precision they navigate through environments of different complexity. For this thesis, I have investigated how bumblebees use the pattern of apparent image motion that is generated in their eyes as they move through the world (known as optic flow), in order to control flight. 3. 3. Bird's eye view of star formation in the local Milky Way - How perspective changes with scale, time and viewing angle

    Author : Andri Spilker; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; interstellar medium; star formation;

    Abstract : A crucial aspect in interpreting the scaling relations relevant for star formation—the Kennicutt-Schmidt relation and the Larson relations—is how those relations depend on size-scale. This is especially so when comparing relations derived from unresolved, extragalactic data to those derived from resolved, Galactic data. READ MORE

  4. 4. Unveiling a multiscale view of massive star and cluster formation

    Author : Chi Yan Law; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Star Formation;

    Abstract : Massive stars regulate the physical and chemical evolution of galaxies. Most stars within these galaxies, including massive ones, appear to be born in star clusters and associations. However, many questions remain unanswered about how massive stars and clusters form from the diffuse gas of interstellar space. READ MORE

  5. 5. Unveiling a multi-scale view of massive star and cluster formation

    Author : Chi Yan Law; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; massive stars; methods:observation; magnetic field; stars:formation; ISM:clouds;

    Abstract : Massive stars regulate the physical and chemical evolution of galaxies. Most stars within these galaxies, including massive ones, appear to be born in star clusters. However, there are many open questions about how these systems form from diffuse interstellar gas. READ MORE
