  1. 1. Hepatitis C virus. Aspects on natural history, antibody response, and viral quantification

    Author : Martin Lagging; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Hepatitis C virus; nosocomial infection; pseudotyped virus; fibrosis; viral quantification;

    Abstract : Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is the major cause of parenterally transmitted non-A, non-B hepatitis, and is associated with chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Despite the screening of blood products nosocomial spread of HCV continues to occur. READ MORE

  3. 3. Detection and Quantification of Variable Viral RNA by Real-Time PCR Assays

    Author : Shaman Muradrasoli; Jonas Blomberg; Göran Friman; Maria Brytting; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Virology; Diagnosis of Viral RNA; QPCR; RNA virus; broadly targeted PCR; probe design strategy; Infectious diseases; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : As the area of nucleic acid based technologies develops, so will our understanding of how structural variations in DNA and RNA pathogens are associated with disease. The overall goal of this thesis is the development of broadly targeted measurement techniques for variable viral RNA by Real-Time PCR (here referred to as quantitative reverse transcriptase PCR, QRT-PCR). 4. 4. Genital human papillomaviruses. Studies of their occurrence, type spectrum and expression

    Author : Ola Forslund; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mRNA expression; microwell; HPV 70; type determination; CIN; quantification; urine; multifocal infections; hybridization; PCR; HPV; human papillomavirus; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : The occurrence of genital human papillomavirus infection was determined in different categories of patients by means of PCR. In high proportion of young women attending an adolescent clinic, the presence of HPV DNA was demonstrated in simultaneously urethral and cervical samples, suggesting that genital HPV infections are often multifocal. 5. 5. Opportunistic viral infection after paediatric transplantation

    Author : Carola Kullberg-Lindh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Paediatric liver transplantation; paediatric stem cell transplantation; immunosuppression; opportunistic; CMV; EBV; AdV; HHV-6; real-time PCR; monitoring; specimen; post transplant lymphoproliferative disease;

    Abstract : Background: Opportunistic viral infections can cause considerable morbidity and mortality in organ and stem cell transplanted (SCT) patients, mainly due to iatrogenic T cell dysfunction. Whereas in SCT patients, in general the immunosuppressive treatment can be discontinued after 6-12 months, for the majority of organ transplanted patients, the need for treatment is life-long.
